Sunk costs. Should we eventually expect 3500-4000 student schools? 5000? Where do we stop the madness? |
PP referred to sports opportunities. |
+1 If my spouse has a 2000 car and I get a new, 2024 car, it would be expected that my brand new car would be a lot nicer than the older one. |
You didn’t acknowledge the inconsistency. Halting construction regardless of the capacity of the smaller schools will push some kids into larger schools. Either you think that’s problematic or you don’t. |
The larger schools typically offer even more clubs, elective courses, and extracurriculars than the smaller schools. Although making the most popular cut sports like basketball would be tougher.
FCPS’s largest high schools have also been the commonwealth’s sports powerhouses since the 70s. (Previously the sports powerhouses were the Arlington schools when they were the largest in the state.) For a number of reasons the majority of families are okay with between 2000 to 3000 students high schools, but no more than that. Definitely not 4,000, 5,000 or 6000 students. I believe the Alexandria high school is scheduled to grow to around 6,000 students within the decade |
Why would you be getting a brand new car with all the bells and whistles if your spouse was still driving an old car built over 15 years ago. Makes you sound selfish. |
+100 |
Unfortunately, your post makes you sound completely dense. Do better. |
Or maybe your analogy was lame. Sorry you’re out of gas when it comes to offering anything useful. |
I'm sorry your grossly overcrowded school hasn't been renovated yet, but throwing tantrums and blaming it on others who have nothing to do with the renovation queue just makes you look ridiculous. Plenty of suggestions have been offered here. |
This cannot be a serious post?? JFC. DP |
It would all depend on the model, no? You’re just assuming your new car is a BMW and your spouse is driving a Corolla. |
I'm that PP. And this scenario actually did happen recently. We both drive Hondas and - as anyone would expect - my new Honda is much nicer than his old one. This is not difficult to comprehend. |
Yes, but lack of baseball may be a function of a lack of interest. |
I do think it is problematic. Either push them into existing capacity — you could keep them there until a new school is built and then leave a school with excess capacity that could be used for some other function. Maybe move gatehouse people into the extra capacity. Get all the schools under 2k. |
