Why are people in this region left lane campers?

I’d look out for the reckless brake checker. He’s definitely going to cause a major accident some day.

There are left exits on the beltway.

On the beltway, it's hard to not be actively passing in the left lane. Any trooper pulling anyone over on 495, 66, 95, or 395 is looking for a pretext for a stop

Actively passing means passing. If you are going the same speed as the car in the next lane you are not passing and need to get out of the left lane.

The left lane is almost always 'actively passing.' People who drive faster filter left. 495 isn't a two lane rural road where the left lane can just sit empty

If people are passing you on the right then you are not actively passing.

If it takes you more than a few seconds to pass you are not actively passing.

Seems like people in VA are just never taught how to pass on the highway. They don’t understand the concept.

But you can’t actually “pass”. There isn’t room to move to the right lane because it’s clogged. Frankly every lane is clogged.

I would just like it if everyone went 5 over the speed limit very uniformly. Can you imagine how well everything would flow

Traffic also flows more smoothly when people stay right, pass left.

So it’s your law to enforce someone moving mover, but not your speeding. If you’re behind me, I’m brake checking you

Which is reckless driving.

Fine I won’t brake check you. I will however spray you with my windshield fluid.

You shouldn’t drive with so much emotion. Spite is dangerous.

Why do you want “crazy reckless speeders” tailgating you?

Left lane is for passing fool.

Yes, I know, but the poster hyperventilating about the “crazy reckless speeders” does not.

There are highways other than the Beltway.

Are you at all self-aware? Neither is it up to you to enforce your imaginary left lane rule with your honking. I usually take a photo and immediately call 911 when I spot aggressive drivers like you. It really works!

The left lane rule is not imaginary. Yes, Virginia, there is a left lane law.

This is what we are talking about and don't pretend like this doesn't happen here:

You see what the truck had to do to get around the left lane camper? You idiots driving in the left lane CAUSE accidents because traffic cannot flow freely and you force everyone who wants to pass to have to make multiple lane changes when you should just be moving over rather than taking it personally that someone wants to pass. This thread is proof 50% or more of the drivers in the DMV should have their licenses completely revoked. So many insane people trying enforce what they think is the speed limit and proper traffic enforcement. Good God, please don't breed. We don't need more stupid people in this world.

The point is that on any highway that's not terribly congested, driving properly (using the left lane for passing only) means that NO ONE needs to adjust their speed to other cars. The "drive in the right lane, pass in the left" takes care of that problem entirely! Everyone can drive at their desired speed!

(It's not Ohioans, I learned to drive there. I blame Maryland.)

Please enlighten me as to what highway in this area is ever not terribly congested at a time you drive on it regularly enough to care.

(I have no dog in this fight; I’m rarely more than one lane from the right and have been known to exit early or late to avoid a left exit because I don’t want to go near the crazies in the left lane. Y’all have anger management problems.)

We’ve covered this already in this thread. I just got home from New York and at no time were any of the highways congested enough to not follow this simple, legally required rule of highway driving.

Oh please, there is never 24/7 traffic. Plenty of times you're driving on I95 for long stretches and trying to pass but can't because some dumb suburban idiot ike you doesn't know how to move the hell over to let people and traffic pass. You take it personally that anyone tries to pass you, then you drive slow and clog up the lanes or try to create walls with other cars in the lane over so no one can pass.

Anonymous wrote:I think it is because of the merging situation. Cars that are in the right and middle lanes tend to be merging out of the highway and onto the highway and people in the left lane or just traveling straight. They just want to stay there so they don’t have to deal with the merging and they’re not getting off anytime soon.

Anonymous wrote:GET OUT OF THE WAY. If you're not passing in the left lane and there are people behind you, move over. Why is it so hard? The amount of times you drive and get stuck by someone going slow in the left lane is infuriating. It causes sooooo much traffic when people cannot pass because some moron is going slow in the left lane or is going the same speed as other cars and is creating a wall. Get the heck outta the way. You also cause higher risk for accidents, because now everyone has to weave in an out of traffic to get around your a$$ since you're clogging up the flow of traffic. People around here probably have the lowest driving IQ I've ever seen anywhere in this country. It's worse here than LA, NY, and Chicago. Why are there so many oblivious people around here in the roads? Lack of testing by states and DC?

No! On the beltway the speed limit is generally 65 and traffic is dense. Everyone in the right lane is going 65 and everyone in the left lane is already going 75. And you're the reckless tailgating a$$hat who wants everyone to move over so you can go 100?!

And yet the actual speed limit on the beltway is 55.

Here are the hall monitors.

Stay right, pass left.

I'm not getting out of a lane moving 65 and into a lane moving 35 so that someone can tailgate the next person in line in the delusion that they can someone how go 75 even though everyone in the left lane is already going as fast as traffic will allow. People seem to think that 495 and 66 and 270 are empty country highways where you can easily get over to let someone pass and then resume your position with no inconvenience.

Outside of rush hour it’s very rarely bumper to bumper. Or 35 mph highways.

66 and 95 are always a mess. ALWAYS

I just drove on 66 this morning and aside from one backup it was smooth sailing. Passing people on left - and right when there was a slow MFer in the left lane.

You’re reinforcing my belief that VA drivers are just oblivious to what’s happening around them.

What about it? The video clearly shows a soccer mom driving carefully at the legal speed limit. Meanwhile, a couple angry incel MAGA truck drivers are dangerously jockeying around the different lanes with their reckless felony speeding.
