Removal of Eaton Principal Steven Eskay

Is the thought that teachers have been raising concerns to the PTA for a long time and the PTA has somehow held teachers back from raising those concerns with DCPS? (Could a PTA even do that?) And why would teachers complain to the PTA in the first place rather than to DCPS? What am I missing?

This is what I don't understand. There are clear insiders attacking parents on the HSA and LSAT on this thread for doing nothing... but then everyone says that they were completely blindsided by these allegations. Is there actually any reason at all to think the HSA and/or LSAT knew? Unclear what the HSA, in particular, could "do" anyway??

A teacher can’t complain to dcps- there’s no one to complain to. Unless you have the courage to go to the instructional superintendent but the principal and IS are usually in cahoots with each other.
Teachers do not have the kind of leverage parents have.

Current Eaton parent. You should be worried. That'll be 4 principals in 5 years.

It's disgusting when people state things that are bold face lies. Making a change in leadership will not make 4 principals in 5 years at Eaton. Stop it! I'd like to see you get a boss that delivers the same kinds of rude, nasty behavior as this principal. What would you do?

To the new parent, you should only be worried if the school leader is allowed to continue in a work environment where 100% of his instructional staff has cast a vote of no confidence in his leadership. The instructional staff will not change much, Eaton is known for having a high retention rate for teachers. That is a good sign for a school community. Teachers deliver the most child-contact service in a school setting, not the principal. The allegations mentioned in this case all seem to point at the principal's treatment of staff and his verbalizing inappropriate things about children to staff. Stay involved, participate in your parent-community groups, talk to your child's teacher, listen to your child about how he/she feels about school and the adults at school. Stay off this site because too many people here are clearly out of the loop!

Mann - Anderson - Eskay - Replacement principal ... that's in the last 5 years

Mann left for medical reasons. Anderson was interim principal. You are technically correct, but don’t give the whole picture. Eaton, as a school community, is strong and can get through this. As the pp says, new families should get involved with the actually school and not just listen to anonymous posters here.

I really don't understand the purpose of flinging dirt at every official at Eaton. It's really distasteful.

Alcoholism isn't why he left lol. I meant that if you get the right person drunk they'll give you the real reason.

Is that even necessary? The court filings are public?

A cursory google search will give you the reason why he was pushed out by DCPS. Mann also just got hired as principal at a small elementary school in Vermont, fwiw.

And then, what will happen now? We are on Wednesday June 21, 2021.
How does this novel continue?

Does anyone know how last night’s Zoom call with the HSA/LSAT went? With everyone scattering for the summer as of today, I would think it’ll be hard to keep the pressure on the Central Office.

This whole thing sounds ridiculous. I highly doubt that a principal would be bold enough to say these things to colleagues. Some teachers probably were oversensitive when it came to something that Principal Eskay addressed with them. People really need to grow some thicker skin.

This is happening at my NW DCPS elementary school as well. The entire scenario sounds so similar, except it's our AP that is an abusive nightmare. She gaslights everyone, talks inappropriately about parents, staff, and students and turns the school against each other...so many shady practices between the principal and AP. The principal is fully aware of the toxic environment, so many staff have reached out, but he does nothing about it....then again....he does nothing about anything. Many grievances have been submitted but we don't have the demographics for DCPS or loud communities like DCUM to give a crap. We don't have the unity that Eaton has because we are walking on eggshells each day, no one trusts one another because of the manipulation and lies that have been orchestrated across the building by the AP. A teacher even called police on the AP earlier in the year, during school hours.

I admire Eaton and support their teachers and staff 100%.
