$300k house near swim and tennis clubs, sports facilities, and great schools and jobs anywhere in the US

I don't know about athletic facilities, but Manhattan Kansas. Schools are only good because of the University, otherwise Kansas has gone downhill.

I was going to say Chagrin Falls,OH

Yes, look in Cary which is a suburb of Raleigh.

Where can we move where I can afford to outright buy my house and still find decent jobs and schools and activities nearby? My friend lives in upstate NY and tells me to head up there where there are many houses for $200k. The schools there are hit or miss and the job market is a little low and it's cold. What other areas of the country can I look at?

Many such places in FL and the South IF "house" includes condos/ townhouses, "great schools" means not worse than DMW, and you're looking for "jobs" in the private sector.

I wouldn't even consider upstate NY.

Why don’t you offer some realistic suggestions for $300k, then, since you have all the answers.

I would move to Michigan. Walkable areas, summers are amazing, lake Michigan is great, schools are on par with DMV , and honestly college acceptance easier than from VA. If you son is great academically he can get into UM, if OK MSU .
Are you M or F? The people are good looking too.

I agree on the overall cost of living in Michigan, particularly when it comes to kid activities and sports. I pay 1/2 or less for things like swim team, camp, baseball, etc., than what my friends in the DMV pay. And honestly our salaries are comparable to there, which makes it nice when it comes time for vacations and other extra items. Also the airport is great, hardly ever any issues and you can easily get nonstop to Europe and Asia.

Also should add for Michigan, if this is important to you, the state level government is now all blue and are actually getting things done with solid female, minority and LGBTQ+ representation.

OPs house price is now on the lower side for that area, unless she finds a fixer upper. I'm a former resident, our former house in Cary just sold for more than our house in MoCo.

Maybe look at small college towns in Central PA. For example around Lewisburg PA or Danville PA. Lewisburg has Bucknell and Danville has Geisinger—this means there is a concentration of medical and academic families. Bucknell has great athletic facilities.

You did mention a shortage of construction jobs in Central PA—but maybe there’s something? There is certainly construction going on.

Exactly where are the under $300K houses in PA?

If you want ''great schools'' and an SFH, you're going to have to up your budget to low $400,000s. Look in and around Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton, Harrisburg, Reading, Pittsburgh, Lancaster, York, and Philly.

You just rattled off some really economically depressed areas with terrible schools and no tennis club. Alllentown are you kidding? That place is a dump.

+1

OP, follow what people are doing with their feet. Where are people actually moving to?

Hint: it's nowhere in the NE.
