Same general area. Different hotel.

Um, no it isn't. Not even in the same state...

Hmm, I thought the maintenance guy who abducted Relisha had been staying at the nearby Days Inn on NY Ave, and that's where he took her. It's been a long time though, I might be mistaken. Thanks for the clarification.

Holy shit, when will you realize that the DC City Council has no oversight of adult criminals or the Bureau of Prisons? Neither the Mayor nor the Council nor the AG had any part in whether this guy was released, how and when he was released, etc.

In fact, the city very likely had NO IDEA this guy was out on the street.

Are you that dumb though? Yes, this guy’s release was done by a judge (not city council) but we could change the law so that release was not an option for this type of person. Then the judge couldn’t make that decision…

Yup. When DC Council eliminated cash bail they created a process that allowed for these outcomes.

I'm so sick of this. Why are these sociopaths being released to harm others?

This is what you matched and chanted and, most importantly, voted for. Embrace it.

Somebody did.

Huh? Didn't vote or chant for any of this.

If you voted for Matt Frumin, then you voted for this. Both his primary and general election opponents wanted pause/reform of the poorly implemented housing voucher program that is destroying the apartment buildings along Connecticut Ave. The buildings are now filled with many unhinged homeless people and there have been too many stabbing, shootings, drug use, to count. Enjoy those bike lanes, though.

I had no idea about this. I was parking along Conn. Ave yesterday to go to the zoo. A man, who appeared high was hovering right next to the passenger side of my car. My kid declared his “sus” and wouldn’t get out of the car until he left. [/quote

That's a smart kid.

In January, prosecutors agreed to Sydnor’s release from jail before sentencing, though he was subject to high-intensity supervision. The U.S. attorney’s office in D.C. declined to explain that decision — with a spokesperson saying Monday that they cannot comment on pending litigation. Sydnor’s attorney in the case declined to comment."

And this is Charles Allen and Matt Frumin's fault?

What is "high-intensity" supervision? I know it isn't what it says but I want to know just because.

It involves an ankle monitor; he did not show up to have one fitted.

And?? They just let him stay loose?

That policy is among many democrat “criminal reform” policies.

Democrats just tried to pass even more radical “criminal reform” in D.C.:

https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1116430.page

Democrats obviously do not care about crime victims whatsoever.

Why do you keep voting these people into office? Seriously, why??

Because the majority of DC voters share these views and prioritize decreasing incarceration over public safety or justice for victims. The DC electorate in the aggregate just doesn’t care about crime the way you do. Nobody is hiding their views and soft on crime candidates keep winning elections.

If what you've written is true, that's a pathetic tale on crime and the suffering of innocent people who are victims.

Not PP but have you been asleep the last three years? Of course it’s true.

Thanks. Is this appropriate for kids too? It was a very awkward situation and I honestly felt bad dawdling in my car while he loitered. I figured that he was just going to ask for money. I told my kids not to get out of the car until I said it was ok. He did try to talk to us as we walked up the street (he’d changed directions). I’m not a city person anymore.

NE DC really is a sht-hle is what I am concluding. I got roasted on here for saying this a while back, but I ended up at the PG County Mall for lunch and ubered back to NE DC. Despite the rep of “PG County” and that mall, it was actually perfectly nice and not at all sketchy. The worst places I saw as I ubered back were absolutely NE DC on Bladensburg.

Agree with you on PG, I go to that mall all the time and it’s really not sketchy. But there are perfectly fine parts of NE, and there are plenty of spots in NW that are just as sketchy as many in NE. There really is no “one size fits all” for any quadrant.

I have not seen ANYWHERE in NW that comes anywhere near NE levels of sketch. I know that there are plenty of shootings and carjackings, but I have not seen anything like the zombie gatherings at the Starburst.

Um, so you never been to parts of Shaw, Columbia Heights, U st corridor, Georgia Ave thru Brightwood...? Or those don't count as "ANYWHERE in NW"?

Yes I have, and nothing comes close to Bladensburg going down to H St in terms of the mad-max feel. They do have crime but not the same vibe at all. I’d walk down 7th St or U st at night with few concerns. I try to avoid the Starburst even during the day. My sense is that you have never actually walked through these areas if you think U St is anywhere comparable. Maybe the one spot that comes closest is N Cap and NY Ave - but that’s NE/NW. Anyway, my point is that it’s one thing to live in a neighborhood that is relatively functional and well-organized (even if it has crime), like Shaw and Brightwood. Quite another to see the complete loss of control over public space and open dysfunction in places like Bladensburg (including the Ivy Motel.)

I am the PP that said there’s no one size fits and I do see what you mean. Georgia Ave or U Street can get weird but they span functional neighborhoods and have plenty of retail and foot traffic. The Ivy City area is a totally different type of sketchy. Although, there still are plenty of functional areas of NE like Brookland, Woodbridge, Riggs Park.

+1 on this. Bladensburg road feels really weird and out of control.
