Whose side are you on: Airplane Movie Etiquette Edition

You sound way too sane for the world we live in today. I would have done the same as you. Hell my son would see me naked until middle school (or there about) and thought nothing of it. Little boys do not have the hormones yet that makes their first thought me sexual when they see a human body.

I watched The Hangover on a flight a few years ago on one of those planes where the screen is in the seat back and not on your own device. I thought it was funny, then a fully naked man jumped out of the trunk of a car. I’d never seen the movie and had no idea that scene was in it. I did look around for little ones but didn’t see any. But I had no control what was on my screen. And I did continue to watch that movie, it was entertaining. If there had been a kid in my row I probably would have turned it off. But not for kid several rows back, it wouldn’t have even crossed my mind.

Why not? It’s not Saudi Arabia. Watch your own screen.

No big deal on the Sopranos. The content that I really think should be banned on planes is things with airplane crashes. I've seen multiple TV shows and movies featured on planes with plane crashes, and WTF? I don't want to see that while I'm literally mid-air--on my screen or anyone else's, LOL.

This. She was absolutely wrong. She probably drew her kids attention even more to the show with her theatrics.

I’m no prude, but no. Nothing that can’t be shown on regular broadcast tv should be shown on a plane.[/quote

This^. Its not about a single incident but general policy.

Its not about a single incident but general policy. Airlines need to be more cautious.

What if he was watching porn? He has a right to!

He wasn’t. You can stop now.

Is he a sociopath? I disagree.

I think the mother had a very valid concern but there were ways she could mitigate it.
- She could have changed seats with her kids. The youngest could sit on the window seat where the oldest was sitting, the older kid with the electronic device could sit where she was sitting and she would have taken the middle seat.
- She could have her kids watch some other age appropriate programming on her own device (yes, if you are travelling with kids then you usually carry their entertainment and devices with you),
- She could have requested to switch seats with people in the row behind her so that the her entire family would sit in the row behind her
- She could request discreetly (a tap on his shoulders) to the person in front and ask if she could hang a coat on the back of his seat so that her kid could not see the screen.

Instead, she went a full Karen mode and started making noise and speaking loudly. As a result, the person in front decided not to help her. Tell me she is a White mom without telling me she is a White mom!

Well right she’s clearly bad but can you imagine your husband/brother/dad having a (admittedly wound up/dramatic) mom say “omg my kids can see nudity on your show!!!” and they would decline to turn it off? No argument that the mom’s bad but it is inconceivable a normal man wouldn’t say oh sorry I didn’t realize your son could see.

It’s not “inconceivable” in the slightest. Mom was ridiculous and sucks at problem solving.

No. This guy can watch what he wants to watch that’s made available by the airline.

I would have an issue with sex.

You’ve obviously not watched The Sopranos. It’s a great show but it is not something young children should watch.

Those of you telling the mom to drive are exactly the kind of self-centered a-holes that are ruining society. Congratulations for being proud Neanderthals, I guess. Low class, self-centered idiots.

The only self-centered one here is Drama Mama.

I wouldn’t. If the airline is showing it it’s fair game. I may fast forward but I’m watching what I want. Sorry if you deem it in appropriate. That’s your problem

Mom of 3.

Well yeah, I would be considerate in that situation and you would not. We all make our own choices.

Oh, grow the hell up.

Do you expect everyone on the plane to watch Toy Story in case a kid looks up from their Nintendo?

Yes. I oppose watching nudity or graphic violence on airplanes so everybody much watch only animated films. Thank you for articulating my opinion so clearly.

So don’t watch nudity or graphic violence on an airplane. Pretty easy to just.. not watch.

Pretty easy for the son to…just not watch.

You’re the fourth person to bring up this irrelevant non-point. Do try to stay on topic.
