1) I think Delta should edit shows like these. Seems like it's asking for trouble to show them unedited.
2) If they're offering it, he can watch it. The man didn't do anything wrong. 3) Your kids are your responsibility. They're unlikely to even notice the screen of the man in the row ahead of them. If they can see it, you need to figure out a new plan. Cover the gap with a sweater or something. Distract your kid. It's like it's porn, it's the occasional boob. He'll live. I understand her frustration, but she should redirect it to the airline, not to the man. And I think she really overreacted. It's more interesting if HE has a computer and is watching something he brought. That's a harder question. BONUS: Why didn't you over to change seat with the man? That would have solved the problem. |
Mom was 100% in the wrong. She was offered a solution. She refused. End of story.
I’d be a bit more sympathetic if it was a personal device and movie but I’d still be team man. |
Because I didn’t want to? And I doubt he did either. He’d be three rows behind. |
In this particular situation, I think the mother was wrong, even more so when she disturbed other passengers by being loud about it.
But I've definitely seen scenes on international flights on other people's screens that made me uncomfortable when I was a child, and make me uncomfortable for today's children now. |
What if he was watching porn? He has a right to! |
I have boys of similar ages and I think this sounds like a stupid overreaction for the simple reason that they don't want to watch The Sopranos on mute. Not surprised at all the 8 yr old was occupied by his Switch. I really doubt he looked up from it.
She wanted to shame the man and the airline. Okay. But it wasn't' really about the kids in a practical way. |
She's wrong. I have little kids - they're not looking at a far away screen for long and don't even get what's going on. I've watched things like bloody horror movies on planes in my own ipad - I turn it slightly away from other people but if all the annoying things people do on planes, this is not the one to complain about. Unless maybe it's straight up p0rn - not a boob in a drama. |
Agreed. Anything Delta offers is free game. Any issues should be taken directly up with Delta. |
Is he a sociopath? I disagree. I think the mother had a very valid concern but there were ways she could mitigate it. - She could have changed seats with her kids. The youngest could sit on the window seat where the oldest was sitting, the older kid with the electronic device could sit where she was sitting and she would have taken the middle seat. - She could have her kids watch some other age appropriate programming on her own device (yes, if you are travelling with kids then you usually carry their entertainment and devices with you), - She could have requested to switch seats with people in the row behind her so that the her entire family would sit in the row behind her - She could request discreetly (a tap on his shoulders) to the person in front and ask if she could hang a coat on the back of his seat so that her kid could not see the screen. Instead, she went a full Karen mode and started making noise and speaking loudly. As a result, the person in front decided not to help her. Tell me she is a White mom without telling me she is a White mom! |
-BTW - I am an immigrant mom from a very conservative culture. I travel with my kids in US and internationally and my usual trips home takes around 20 - 24 hours of flying. I see all kinds of fellow travelers. |
Well right she’s clearly bad but can you imagine your husband/brother/dad having a (admittedly wound up/dramatic) mom say “omg my kids can see nudity on your show!!!” and they would decline to turn it off? No argument that the mom’s bad but it is inconceivable a normal man wouldn’t say oh sorry I didn’t realize your son could see. |
Public spaces expose kids to all walks of life and experiences. She’s in the wrong. Keep your kid indoors in a bubble if you have an issue with other people. |
I’m amazed you and her could see the screen. I just flew British Airways and couldn’t see what the person next to me was watching. They’re designed like that on purpose.
Having said that, he has a right to watch what he wants and the mom was wrong, and yes I’m a parent. |
I don’t understand why airlines have movies with sex scenes or gore in their menu. I’ve had to fast forward through scenes of movies when flying with my kids (didn’t realize they would have sex scenes). |
Not all screens are like that. And usually when you are behind someone you can see. |
