Whose side are you on: Airplane Movie Etiquette Edition

This man was a few rows in front of her, not in the same row or even the row right in front. He was watching content provided by the airline. Why should he have to change what he is watching because the mother wouldn’t switch seats with her child or tell him to stop looking several rows in front and redirect him to another activity. He wasn’t sitting beside them watching porn, he was minding his own business in his row.

People have totally bastardized that phrase. It does not mean, nor has it ever meant that the entire world should cater to young children and their parents even though this is almost always how it is used.

It was a breast, not full nudity. Did you know it's actually legal for women to go topless in six states? https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/free-the-nipple-states

If I’m part of your “village” then I get to discipline your child when they act out. If not, don’t expect anything from me.

You think The Sopranos is 'inappropriate content', I think it's not.

Ahhhhh Americans and their puritanical bullshit!!!!

The kid saw boobs!!!!!!!! Something he already saw presumably when he ate many times and will see many more time in his life. Even if Sopranos were showing the characters doing it, so what???

Also, if it's offered in flight, he has every right to watch it and the entitled mom can just STFU.

Exactly. Same with respecting teachers, police and other authority figures. And by extension it should including caring for elderly, disabled, and poor but UMC parents just want to benefit from the "village" not contribute to it in any way.

Who made you the judge of what is inappropriate? Everyone is free to make their own choices of what they think is appropriate (within legal limits).

I was literally just talking to my sister about this. We both accidentally watched content that I wouldn't voluntarily subject children to, so I wound up fast forwarding through something, and she did too (separate flights). So we had this conversation. I don't think airlines should offer it to be honest, just to keep this very situation from happening. But this lady was also nuts. It didn't seem her kids even noticed, the way OP is telling it? So it's stupid to get all bent out of shape when the kids didn't even notice. If it's offered, it's fair game, but I just don't think it should be offered.

I’d be a bit more sympathetic if it was a personal device and movie but I’d still be team man.

Agreed. Anything Delta offers is free game. Any issues should be taken directly up with Delta.

Frequent business flier here: I agree, but think that Delta should be more considerate to those flying with children; if they are going to offer say "Saw III" or "Nymphomaniac" they should reconsider. As a matter of courtesy I try not to watch anything too explicit on my own device on a plane, but admittedly have been wrong a few times where I wasn't anticipating certain scenes (looking at you, Under the Silver Lake). While courtesy seems like a lost value, I can't get behind Mon's approach here.

Agree that nudity is not a big deal; extreme violence is a much bigger concern from my perspective. It is sadly true that there are some things you can't unsee.

Here's the current offerings

https://www.delta.com/us/en/onboard/inflight-entertainment/current-movies

The only one I would have a problem with if I had young kids would be violent night - "An elite team of mercenaries breaks into a family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone hostage inside. However, they aren't prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus is on the grounds, and he's about to show why this Nick is no saint." I kind of want to see it now though

I struggle to imagine how the kid could possibly see content several rows ahead of his seat. It seems unhinged.

And it’s the Sopranos. No big deal.

The man was watching the Sopranos, not Debbie Does Dallas. I'm sure he wasn't watching it with the anticipation of seeing boobs. The boobs were incidental. I have boys in MS and ES. I would have just shrugged and told my boys to deal with it, and that's even if they noticed.
