I’m surprised how much people dislike Harper. I mean I get what us off putting about her behavior but I find her very relatable. Also, after the second episode it’s clear to me that a lot of her negativity and distrust of people is driven from valid suspicions about them. Like Theo James’ character is absolutely triggering her for good reasons. He hasn’t done anything beyond say some mildly obtuse things to her but I also get a “this guy is dangerous” vibe from him. The show is setting it up— the exposure that might have been accidental (but might not), the conversation about his “long fuse” and then he just loses it, and the thing about him sneaking up in Harper under the water and her saying “I thought you were a shark.” We’re being shown his character through Harper’s eyes, where yes there are innocuous explanations for his behavior but also he makes her nervous.
Affable people with a lot of money also make me nervous because no matter how nice they are in the surface, we both know they are in a position of power over me. And very wealthy people are used to getting what they want, when they want it, so I sometimes worry what might happen if I don’t perform up to their expectations. The dynamic is different here because Harper is also very wealthy, but it’s new and through her husband so she doesn’t own it or feel comfortable in it the way the other couple does. |

^ she’s wildly turned on by him. After he swam away she had that smile and sexual tension, just like when he was changing in her room.
Make no mistake the aloha, bad boy is getting her hot and she becomes more critical and frustrated by her nice beta husband. |
It was strange neither Tanya or the guy reacted to that comment. I was like OMG, she didn’t just say that ?! |
I thought it was very true to their characters that neither reacted. |
True. I also think they missed it in their self absorption and employee's accent...and, likely, with no kids having zero idea who/what is 'peppa pig'. |
| PP here who posted that Tanya‘s husband was plotting against her. I retract due to a new theory that came to me when I could not sleep last night, probably because I was trying to work out what is happening with the show, ha ha. remember he was sick in the first season? I bet his illness returned, it is terminal, and he is returning stateside for treatment. Tanya has “no idea” because he hasn’t told her yet. He was the one who wanted to take the vacation and told her he wanted her to have a perfect day, and he’s having trouble meeting her eyes and she catches him unable to sleep or staring off into space because of the enormity of his health issues and him being afraid to tell her he is declining. |
Why would he worry about the prenup then? |
I think he was trying to guilt her into changing the pre-nup and that took a turn for the worse. It's no surprise with her $ she was a target for a scam artist...and she is mentally unstable with low self-esteem---prime pickings. White Lotus was the perfect place to go to pick up on her. The 'terminal illness' thing was a fake ploy too. The conversation on the balcony--that was a wife or serious GF in on the scheme. He definitely is living the double life. |
OH--and I thought at dinner he was going to let on that his illness was back too...but that went out the window when he argued about the pre-nup..then with the balcony call I'm certain he's scamming her. |
| I think either theory is plausible. Him being a scam artist is almost too obvious. I think the writer wouldn’t make it such an easy mystery to work out, you know? So I am leaning towards the illness returning idea. |
Harper needs push-back. She wants someone to stand up to her, create the sexual tension. She's not fulfilled by her nice husband. She's bored. The bad boy is pushing her buttons and raising her libido. She literally looks like she was going to leave the breakfast table and rub one out after watching the other couple--but then they joined her on the walk back. |
And that was after watching him go big dog Alpha on the phone call, swearing and yelling. Harper loved that. |
I didn't get this vibe at all, but admittedly I am a stereotypical millennial who is doing 3 other things online (like reading DCUM) while watching a show. Now I'm going to re-watch and see if I pick up on this perspective. |
Same, I didn't pick up on this at all but since the theme of the season is sex, it would make sense that this is the angle they are going for. |

I think it's actually Harper that came into the money. I watched episode two again this morning and listened carefully to see if they ever said *he* earned or came into the money. I didn't pick up on any.
Also when Harper was talking about being from Puerto Rico, and the other couple fake-said they should go, she said "You could stay with my family in San Juan." Maybe her family is super rich. |
