Do you put sauce / ketchup / soya / salad dressing on your foods? Do you consume a lot of dairy.

It sounds honestly, like you don't have a clue.

OP here. No need to be rude. For breakfast, I eat a cereal bar on the way to school along with coffee. In the evening I eat a normal dinner or chicken, fish, pasta etc. I think I may be eating too much at dinner so maybe I’ll add some protein to my lunch to keep me fuller. The only dairy I consume is cheese on pizza every few weeks and a splash of creamer in my coffee. I eat maybe a tablespoon of ranch dressing on my salad. No alcohol. Dessert maybe once a week. Soda maybe once a month.

The day should start with a healthy breakfast, this cereal bar is likely 75% sugar and that is setting the tone of your day and leaving you hungry at the end of it.

oatmeal has no sugar in it - you add chopped apples and it's sweet but still, very low sugar. You can also add nuts for protein / calories.

do not eat pizza it is really high in fat and carbs - there is basically zero nutrients in a pizza and its something like 350 calories per slice.

Never have a soda, never have dressing, what is the "protein" you're adding to your lunch? There's a big difference between a can of tuna and a few slices of salami in terms of fats.

You don't have a clue.

How tall are you and what do you weigh? You might be trying to maintain at a weight that is too low for your height/frame. No pizza ever or no dressing is crazy.

I am European we don't eat like you do.

Why do people call themselves European? Why not just say you are Belgian or Swedish or Spanish or Polish? It’s almost like you’re trying “flex” because you think “European” sounds more worldly.

I know a lot of heavy Germans, English and Italians. Aren't they "European" as well? lol.

Are they real Germans and Italians and English people or are they Americans claiming ancient heritage? You do get big Europeans they are normally the peasant class.

Welp, we can just discount everything you've said or will say, now that you've unironically used the term "peasant class."

Peasants exist in many places, pretending they don't doesn't help anyone. Least of all you.

I really wonder how many snobby Europeans post here. Is it just one or two that posts frequently on the diet page? I sort of suspect it is one person.
The average EU citizen consumes 90 liters of soda per year so clearly not all Europeans eschew soda. And as for ranch dressing….Russians cover everything in mayonnaise or sour cream which is basically ranch without the seasoning. They are also European.

It's definitely hormone-related. Crazy dieting or see about balancing your hormones?

Russia is not part of Europe. It is Eastern Europe and former USSR.
You sound like someone who has never left Kentucky and learns everything from Fox News.

Anonymous wrote:I lost 6 pounds in a month but I restrict myself to only 1k calories and record every drop of anything I put in my mouth on my notes app. I also workout for 45 minutes on the eliptical vigorously, do 15 minutes weight training and then swim for 30 minutes as many laps as I can. I get there as soon as they open so I can get everything in, shower and get to work on time. You MUST count EVERYTHING!!! People drink juice, smoothies, and all kinds of crap and think it does not add up. No sauce, no salt, no sugar, no wheat, and no junky carbs like potatoes or rice. I do allow one sweet per day and those are rice rollers with dried fruit. That is it! I even switched to sugar free gum. I turned 40 last year and realized I was gross, ugly and fat. So, I did something about it and have lost 60 pounds. I want to go all the way back to high school weight and will not stop until I reach it. If I have to do 500 and get on a pic line so be it. And, this is for me not for some man, so there is that before anyone on here bashes me for trying to appease somebody. This is what I want. I want back control over my life. Good luck OP. Be ruthless with the diet and exercise. Your body can take it. Mind over pain.

The problem with this is that you’re screwed forever by restricting yourself so much. You’ll never be able to return to normal eating because you’ve reset your norm to 1K calories/day.

This internet stranger and mom of 3 is worried about you, OP.

I mean this without a trace of snark or sarcasm; please get some counseling.

Over 30 years ago, my calorie counting and daily workouts spiraled into binging and purging and then full fledged bulimia and anorexia.
I did get some scared straight type counseling but never dealt with the underlying anxiety and depression issues that certainly drove the ED.

You have obviously never been to Italy. Most people are skinny, skinny fat or outright fat. Skinny are mostly the younger ones who will fall into the two latter categories over time. Very few people are fit, but you also do not see the extreme obesity that you frequently encounter here in the US.

Can we please stop using the term "skinny fat". It's a stupid term and designed to make thin people feel bad about themselves. It's like no one can win. Weigh too much, fat. Weigh too little - skinny. Weigh a "normal" amount, but not rippling with muscles - skinny fat. How about we just focus on eating reasonable amounts of foods as close to "whole" as possible. Get some sort of exercise every day.

So earlier in this thread I mentioned I had lost about 10 lbs by reducing to a 1200-1400 calories per day diet and someone said it was water weight only.

Update - after 9 weeks I've now lost a total of 20 lbs and feel fantastic. So I guess it wasn't just water after all.

If you are under 5’3” you will not see results this quickly. I just want to put this out there as I’ve seen a lot of threads from short people so you don’t get discouraged. Everyone says never go below 1,200, but they are not talking to you, 5’1” person. You can go below 1200. Get a general sense of your energy expenditure (calculators online can help with this, which incorporate your height, weight, and activity level). Then calculate how many fewer calories you need in order to be in enough deficit to lose 1/2 to a pound a week. These same calculators should tell you that, too. Follow for a few weeks and tweak. Most people who don’t lose weight after doing this are underestimating how many calories they are eating per day.

Stopping birth control and SSRIs led me to lose 10 pounds without trying. It turns out I didn't need the SSRIs anymore and DH got a vasectomy. It's been nice!

IKR? Like "African" Americans who have been here for centuries! No ties to ancient tribes yet needeto qualify their American-ness.

This is what worked for me:

For one month I ate 25% less than I normally would. For the 2nd month, I ate a bit less than that.

That was it. I got down to the weight I wanted to be. I now know I was ultimately eating about 1/3 more than I should for the weight and shape I wanted to be. I was already working out everyday (as I always have) so I knew it had to be my diet. I literally made a normal meal, put it on my plate, and took away 1/4 of it. Did it for a month. No counting or detailing. I was ok for that first month so I took away a little more the second month. It turned out to be that taking away about a third of my normal food intake was the thing to do.

My body was used to eating less after a month, so that is when I moved on to the 2nd month. No cravings as I did not cut anything out.

It really was that simple for me. I just eat less. Maybe 25% less will be enough for some folks.

Been fine for 4 years.

Most AA folks in the US are less than 11% African you realize.
