That is not what I said, but you know that. |

Doesn't sound like the Lincoln Memorial was "trashed," as the OP would like us to believe.
OTOH, here are some monuments (including the Lincoln Memorial) that actually WERE trashed during the 2020 BLM protests: "In the wake of last night's demonstrations, there are numerous instances of vandalism to sites around the National Mall," the National Park Service for the National Mall said in a tweet with photos of defaced monuments. Separately, a group marched and then rallied at the Lincoln Memorial where the words "Yall not tired yet?" were spray-painted. The question "Do black Vets count?" also appeared to be spray-painted across part of the National Mall World War II Memorial. https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/31/politics/dc-monuments-lincoln-memorial-defaced/index.html |

OK twit, if leaving behind trash is always inappropriate than it's wrong, just like this. Both can be true, why is this so hard for a hardheaded twit like you to understand? |
Because thoughtlessly leaving behind trash is not even on the same level as the defacement of national memorials. The OP (you?) would have us believe this is what occurred the other night - when nothing of the sort did. Maybe a little perspective - or rather, honesty - if you can muster it? |
Why the escalation and politicization? OP posted about this trashing the memorial, not about vandalism. Can't we agree that this was bad form without bringing in other more extreme examples or trying to make a political statement? Why are there 10 pages of mostly blasting OP. OK, maybe she was a bit dramatic, but it's still rude and shameful. I heard about it on the radio as well, so it's not like OK saw a little trash and freaked. |

And did you call out the posters blaming this on "white kids" and obviously trying to make it political? No? Didn't think so. |
But it was white kids. And I'm sure we can all agree it was wrong, regardless of their race or economic status. Again, why can't we talk about this truthfully without making it political? |
NP. How do you know it was white kids? Was there video? I'm a non-white Georgetown undergrad alum. If you are implying that Georgetown students = white students without some extrinsic evidence that the particular students involved were white, that is offensive. |
+1. This is not hard. After you hang out at the lincoln memorial, clean up your nasty trash instead of leaving it behind for someone else to do like an entitled brat. And protest all you want but don't spray paint national monuments and expect other to clean it up like an entitled brat. |
I’m sorry - do you have a picture showing all white kids doing this? Or a link of some sort? Otherwise, that’s an incredibly brazen ASSumption - that the only kids involved were white. |
Seriously. I’m trying to imagine the outrage of someone we’re to suggest the perpetrators were black - with zero evidence. |

It's kind of amazing to me the posters who are willing to defend the students here.
A bunch of privileged college students got drunk and left the Lincoln Memorial in bad enough condition with broken glass and other trash that the Park Service had to close it for a while the rangers cleaned up after the kids. Trying to deflect that by saying the word "trashed" isn't accurate (although it seems accurate enough to me) or that it's not as bad as if they had spray painted the Memorial is just lame and pathetic. |
