Such irony.

There is one poster that trashes GU any chance he/she gets. The fact of the matter is that post-graduation college celebrations involve a lot of booze and a lot of a trash no matter where the University is located.

This was very mild to the destruction that happened in the college town where my University was located.

Some trash and broken bottles---have you ever been to the National Mall after a 4th of July Celebration?

Now if they had spray painted Lincoln or the steps I would agree with you. This was broken bottles. You can't even walk down parts of DC or NYC in the middle of the day without stepping around those.

I suggest you come to Clarendon on a Sunday morning and see what the JMU, Tech and UVA students leave behind in their all night partying---and these are post-college professionals.

And it took the maintenance staff less than an hour to clean up -- the word "trash" was taken way out of context; they didn't trash the memorial, there was some trash left behind. They should have carried it out with them like good scouts, but they didn't "trash the Lincoln Memorial."

They could not even be bothered to clean up their own gross mess and left it for someone else to deal with. Lazy, immature, self centered, trashy behavior.

They are just young republicans following their leaders example. At least they did not defecate in the memorial like the Jan 6 the crowd. I guess they can work their way up to that.

Nah, they’d be on the other side, you know the one that trashes reception rooms after losses and bashes BlackBerries with hammers.

It's a Jesuit university. Jesuits are known to be progressive and liberal. Btw, Bill Clinton is a Georgetown alum.

No. Just drunk.

There is trash all over the city. Broken bottles are all over Logan Circle, Dupont, H street corridor and the close-in party areas.

I am not for littering, but leaving broken bottles after a college graduation ceremony isn't as note-worthy as posters are making it seem, EVEN MORE so if you see what it looks like after some big 'party' Universities the day after graduation.

Where was this ever confirmed as a Georgetown event? Some people on Twitter speculated it was Gtown but others said it couldn't have been?

This is happening everywhere - people don't pick up after themselves anymore, and there are fewer trash bins, and fewer staff. It is not a mind blowing concept, nor is it post worthy.

+1.

It was never confirmed to be a Georgetown event, but there are some posters that love to hate on certain schools on this board, you will notice.

+1. Also when did Georgetown start doing graduations at the Lincoln Memorial? I graduated on Healy Lawn.

No graduation. Read before posting

Top 20?? BWAHAHAHA! Not even close.

DP, it is certainly a consensus top 25 school. And certain programs are definitely top 10 and top 3, like International Relations and Foreign Service.

This is absolutely true, but does not fit OP's narrative.

Curious OP, where did you go to college?

I anticipate :crickets: or a flat out lie in response.

I would go to Georgetown if I could get in! In a minute!

Link? DP here. Why all the hate for Georgetown?

In other news, there were like 4 carjackings committed by a bunch of 14 years olds this week. Any outrage over that? Sorry to hear about some spilled wine on the steps of this memorial. How tragic.

Clean up your trash loser.

While I don’t think trash should be left anywhere, for any reason, I have no doubt the most outraged on this thread thought nothing of all the trash and utter destruction left behind during the protests and riots of 2020. “But that’s *different*!”

You do realize that both carjacking and trashing a national monument are unacceptable and inappropriate? It's not one or the other, both are wrong, and need to be addressed. Trying to politicize bad behavior to make it excusable is silly.

Carjacking is not “inappropriate,” it’s a crime of violence against other people. Are you the poster from the Alexandria thread who consistently tried to downplay carjacking as a property crime?

Except the carjackings happened; no national monument was trashed.
