The Marriott HQ is going to be converted to senior housing. (Nice that it won't overrun WJ!) |
Why would older people want to live in a high property tax, high income tax, zero things walking distance wedged between main roads and on top of highway place with HOA fees. Sounds horrible. Plus with the rug rats running around can’t even use the pool
I hate to say this but good schools suck if retired. They load up neighborhood with kids and drives up taxes. |
I wish the county would adjust the traffic lights around the old Marriot site. It's completely vacant yet the lights are still timed to allow a multitude of cars to turn into and out of the complex. |
wow. just visited this community and the proximity to 495 is so disappointing. The number of health issues that are going to pop up for the people that live here will be astounding in the next 3 decades and TB knows it. No liability. Gosh, don't fall for this. 😭 |
'Cause no one else lives near 495. ![]() |
What do you mean? |
It’s right next and sandwiched between both the beltway AND the 270 spur. Disgusting. |
What health issues are you referring to? This neighborhood is in close proximity to healthy and organic grocery stores and plenty of gyms. Also, its walking distance to hiking trails and parks... so whatever "health issues" living next to a highway may cause may also be countered by these positive conveniences. |
Yes, just drive on over to Balduccis for some expensive groceries and everything will be OK |
The concern is cancer due to near-constant exposure to pollutants coming off of 495 and 270. It's literally unacceptable that builders put homeowners in this situation. It's not ok and I urge people to do their research before committing to this for their families. Healthy grocery stores and the gym will NOT outweigh what you're breathing daily. I'm referring to leukemia, lung cancer, etc. I'm a healthcare provider so it's my job to be mindful of external factors that increase risk and this one is significant enough to look elsewhere. Do your research. I've attached just a couple of articles but there are MANY more. A pretty home in "Bethesda" will never outweigh these risks for us and I would tell every one of my patients to make the same decision. The literal audacity of toll brothers to sell these at this price and call them luxury is beyond pathetic. Don't fall for this. We can do better as a community to care for ourselves and our kids. end rant.
"A 2000 Denver study showed that children living within 250 yards or 228.6 meters of a highway with 20,000 vehicles per day are 6X more likely to develop all types of cancer and 8X more likely to get leukemia." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4772211/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26520639/ |
There is a massive apartment complex right on top of 95 at its busiest point. It is over all 12 lanes

You are obviously not from around here. ![]() Houses in the "high sevens" get torn down to make room for the $1.75M homes. They even feed into WJ (imagine that)! Looking at redfin, There are exactly 2 homes in 20817 on the market in the "high sevens." Here is one. https://www.redfin.com/MD/Bethesda/6107-Dunleer-Ct-20817/home/10637040 |
And pending within 24 hours |
Was referring to townhomes, not single family homes, in the non-Whitman district, and especially the Ashburton Elementary district which is the lowest ranked elementary school by far in the county. I have no idea why - its in a nice area but its LOW ranked: https://www.greatschools.org/maryland/bethesda/855-Ashburton-Elementary-School/ |
ugh so sad.I also wouldn't fall for this |
