I currently have it and I have six friends who tested positive in the last week or two and I know if a few others who have it as well -all in DMV.

Yeah, people said the same thing in mid-December.

Yep. And things turned out fine. Vaccinated people were well-protected from severe illness, and hospitals were not overwhelmed.

I agree, but it cure caused a lot of disruption. We had to abort holiday travel due to an exposure at daycare (not to mention the 14 day quarantine that came with it for DC) and later this week will be our first attempt to travel again and see family since then. Fingers crossed!

This is true, but we are getting to the point where boosters are no longer effective.

Understood, but that’s silly. We should be able to treat covid like other illnesses now, getting rid of quarantines for close contacts.

Protection against severe illness is much more durable than protection against infection.

Omicron is milder in even unvaccinated people.

Traveled abroad for spring break. Got sick tested positive 4 days into trip. Stuck for the moment. Test on day of trip was negative of course. No idea where I got it but might have been exposed before trip.
I think lots of people won’t test or will take a test at home. From reaching out/talking to other people, it seems like there is an uptick. The disappointing/scary thing is that some of these people who are testing positive now, had Omicron in January or Delta in the fall. I was hoping that at least when it got me (I’m tripled vac btw), I would be immune for a while.

Tell that to the local health departments still requiring lengthy quarantines for daycare exposure. DP. We just completed our 6th 10-day quarantine in the past 18 months, and neither of my kids have ever tested positive for covid. Quarantine was due to exposure to an asymptomatic caregiver.

But we haven’t. So it still does cause disruption for a lot of people, whether that’s “silly” or not.

I’m seeing a lot of COVID positives at work and in my social circle just from late last week/this weekend. I hadn’t heard of anyone with COVID since January, and now I know about 3-4 people with it.

Do you mind sharing what your next steps are? Did you just check into a hotel? Did you go ahead and arrange a new flight home? Did the airlines work with you or did you lose the money for your return flight?

Yes, we recently went back to the office and just sent everyone home again after 4 positive cases (about 50 people in our office area daily).
Also, my kid's 5th grade class had an outbreak (I think about 10 cases among the 4 classes) right before spring break.

I think a lot of people who were very careful about distancing and mask wearing through omicron are now "done" and getting this latest variant.

My family of 4 has still only had one of us with a positive case (omicron) and none of the rest of us got it.

Once I caught Omicron and it was nothing, I regret every single post-vaccine precaution that I took (and I was as cautious as my work would allow).
