Are you seeing a covid uptick?

Yes. And people are treating it like it’s a cold or a flu. The school is not is freaking out or demanding quarantines if exposed. Living with Covid has commenced and it’s working out just fine.

Fairfax county April 1, 7 day average: 104.

Yesterday it was 127.

This data likely doesn't include home rapid tests. . . .

People are sending their kids to school sick and students aren’t masking anymore. That’s why our school went from 0 to 3 to 9 just this week.

One sick family sent their kids to school and they were quickly sent home (within 2 hours). Damage was already done. Very frustrating as we are trying to travel this weekend for spring break. If anyone tests positive, we must cancel.

My SIL’s entire family also has it (though not in DMV). DD in college had it recently and felt pretty miserable and couldn’t shake it, so I’m tired of hearing about how it’s just a mild cold. It’s still circulating and just like we wouldn’t want to catch the flu, we don’t want to catch this. I think it’s harder to avoid now because people aren’t testing or isolating.

If you avoid indoor socializing and mask in a workplace or classroom, it's pretty unlikely to get covid.

…unless you need a negative test to travel.

Nobody is masking at school anymore…including your kid.

So? We've never had perfect data on covid cases. Not at any point.

County data is still more useful than a dcum survey.

Then you need to make sacrifices for a week or so before your international trip. Sorry.

Yes, but the data now is even more unreliable and not indicative a surge. I get that this won't mean anything to you data-wise, but I know more people with COVID now than at any point in the pandemic. Thankfully, it seems to be largely mild and/or asymptomatic cases - who knows if we will see a hospital surge (hoping not). But I'm not sure the public health data will really tell us very much this round.

What damage can be done in 2 hours?

Did any children actually catch it in those 2 hours? Do you even know if that kid tested positive? Was that kid even sick (you said the family was sick, not the kid)?

Let's all get hysterical again, it's really helpful.

And don't count on people wherever you are going to be masking and staying home. They are living with it too. Good luck getting back into the US.

We continue to mask because that’s the only variable we can control but the kids do have to eat lunch at school. And we do see family periodically without masks and they are back to life as normal so it’s not zero risk.

That is two data points one day apart.

DC cases have more than doubled in two weeks. MoCo not far behind. NYT reports cases up significantly in NYC and DC.

People are confusing seasonal allergies with Covid.
