I love that VA people get their panties in a twist because of UVA which is ranked #110. Whereas, MD folks are so quite about UMD being #60.

Mainly because UMD is the safety school for MD students who are applying to MIT. Whereas UVA is the reach school for VA students.

UVA is ranked no. 4 for public universities by USN&WR. UMCP is no. 20. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/top-public

Notre Dame is #284.

For STEM/CS:
1. Berkeley

2. UVA, UMD
It doesn't matter for the rest

For liberal arts:
1. Berkeley, UVA
2. Notre Dame
3. BC, Tulane
It doesn't matter for the rest

Berkeley blows away UVA in virtually every liberal arts disciple, except maybe English
3. BC, Tulane
It doesn't matter for the rest

Do you have any idea how low Tulane ranks? It's not even close to BC or Colgate. And Notre Dame? Please.

Across the board best public university in America.

I would go to Notre Dame even for CS vs over-crowded Berkeley.
You'll cerntanly get a good job with a CS degree especailly from a top school like Notre Dame.
No need to go to a over-crowded public school with cutthroat competitiveness.

So Notre Dame for any major.

and choosing UVA over Notre Dame for any major is just a flat non-sense.

Not if you are in-state and not Catholic. What about ND ranking only 285 globally did you miss? UVA got my kid into Cambridge for grad work. There are a lot of UVA students at Oxbridge
