Canada Truck Convoy, what to think about it?

But PPs are correct. It's the mandates that don't make sense. Don't any of you think it's a little silly to require vaccinations to go places when everyone you know is vaxxed and boosted and still got Covid?

There's a lot of places where these truckers live and where they go to that aren't even 60% vaccinated, let alone boosted. And many truckers travel all around the country - if they catch it in one part of the country, they can carry and spread it all over. And maybe you have a huge freezer already stocked with a side of beef and a cellar full of canning, but most other people don't, and people start to go hungry if their store shelves are empty for a week. And guess who delivers those groceries to the stores? The truckers. But nah, let's ignore safety, let them get sick, whatever.... That's far more sensible.

You make a good point. Yet, why were we ok with letting them get sick until the vaccines came into play? Hailed them as heroes who risked their lives for the rest of us?

The trucker brought the racist loser flag. Seems it is a “racist issue.”

Sounds like a convoy of real dirtbags. https://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/ottawa-homeless-shelter-staff-harassed-by-convoy-protesters-demanding-food-1.5760423

Seems like a convoy of patriots supported by millions of Canadians.

Just to be clear: it’s “patriotism” for Canadians to wave the flag that has come to stand for the traitor states that went to war because they wanted to continue to own humans? It’s not even a Canadian flag. It’s literally the flag of racist trash.

And you wonder why people call you racist.

Some other pp posted a video of protesters expelling the confederate loser from the protest.
Is everything totally in order there, no? But, liberal media is also going out of its way to show only the bad side of this.
Not showing regular people supporting whatever their cause is.

When they unload their shipments the loading dock doors are open (fresh air) and usually there is maybe one or two workers in receiving up 60 feet apart.

My truckers would unload their own freight and then off they would go.

You think they never interact with anyone? You've clearly never set foot inside a truck stop.

So, if we close truck stops we could put an end to community spread? No sports stadiums or bars, but truck stops are the root of the problem?

The truckers are honking their horns, which proves they are white supremacists. All of them.

Trudeau needs to impound every last truck in Canada!

I’m glad that the backlash against unfettered stupidity is growing.

No. The point is that it's clueless to try and suggest that truckers never come into contact with anyone and are somehow at zero risk. The reality of it is that many truckers HAVE been contracting covid all throughout this pandemic. Sick truckers have contributed to missed pickups and deliveries, backlogs, supply chain shortfalls. It's mind bogglingly naive to suggest that truckers are alone and not at risk.

What specific kind of venue matters less than what kind of contact people are having with each other. And there are many places around the US where unlike NOVA and the big cities where you will barely see a mask anywhere, as if there were no pandemic. And, truckers pass through those areas all the time. Many truckers live in those communities as well. And, Omicron is burning through those places like wildfire right now.

That's because there's a lot of bad side to show. Any time you have anti-vaxxers showing up somewhere you aren't getting the best and brightest. You're for the most part getting a lot of people who are paranoid, delusional, the conspiracy theorists, those easily confused and misled, the underinformed and misinformed, the ones lacking critical thinking skills, and so on.

Good lord you’re an imbecile. 90% of truckers are vaccinated so one would have thought it would be obvious even to the idiots among us that these protesters aren’t anti-vax. Do you even read the news or do you simply spout off random comments?

Triple vaxxed Justin Trudeau has COVId: https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/31/americas/justin-trudeau-covid/index.html

Lucky for him he can isolate and work remotely. I wonder if truckers have that option?

Again, that defies logic. If they already got vaccinated then why are they fighting vaccines?

"Because mandates?"
What about all of the other medical requirements needed to get a commercial driver's license?

It's STUPID no matter how you slice it.

They are fighting mandates - all of them. Masking, proof of vaccination and whatever else is out there, gathering limits and whatever else is out there.

One group gathered to protest in a Province that is already looking at lifting restrictions, and was before the convoy started.

I'm not sure how they plan to deal with the fact that even IF things are changed in Canada, they have to be vaccinated to get into the U.S.

This. The protests are about all manner of illogical covid regs. That masking is all but useless as evidenced by the fact that Trudeau himself currently is hiding from the protesters and just tested positive for covid.

The EU manages this. Why can’t the US?

EU countries are more centralized and have fewer privacy requirements (think HIPPA) than US. So we could be more like EU and have a centralized government with increased access to our health info to improve general social welfare-- Or we can continue with (largely) de-centralized government and greater privacy for individuals and just take out chances that we may not get the most up to date health info to the benefit of Americans society in general. I'm guessing most Americans will continue to opt for what we have.

Omicron is burning through NOVA as well. No sure why you believe otherwise.

It’s not really a silly mandate when you consider that these drivers can’t get into the US unless they’re vaccinated to start with. The vaccination requirement is really moot - the problem is this has turned into a right wing extremist circus.
