I find that the amount of times they refuse to let you pay is not an indicator of interest. I have a guy that I have known a couple years that I used to date occasionally but we have now settled into a platonic friendship and he still insists on paying and doing all the cooking for me. Another guy insisted on paying on all 6 of our dates, never kissed me, then ghosted me. I dated a guy for 8 months and he usually paid for most things, but he made way more money than I did. On the other hand, I dated a guy for a couple of months and he never paid--I think he was gay. The guy I am currently dating suggested we split the bar tab on the first date, but then has cooked for me on subsequent dates.

Yep that is true. I think women track who pays as a ego boost. Along the lines of I am so desirable/attractive that I never pay or how dare he not pay I am worth so much more. It’s a way to keep score. Men know that. So it will never go away here. Now in Iceland where society truly see each sex as capable/equal everyone splits and women ask men out.

You might want do do your research before you go declaring Iceland a sexism free haven.

And how does the endless minutia of your dating history tie in?

Iceland, Scandinavian countries and Germany practically consider it a norm when young female students pay rent to landlord with sex. Prostitution is also legalized. The US traditional gender roles following on dates is a far cry from European views on genders

It is amazing how such a simple question could invoke such emotion and hostility.

When I was a young person (decades ago) a man paid for all expenses when a couple went out, and the woman reciprocated by hosting him for home cooked meals. It worked great.

I bet a lot of people are going to roast me bad and call me all kinds of names for saying something so awful, sexist and provocative. Fortunately, I don't care so go ahead and have at it!

Yeah, I was wondering… when we first started dating my husband paid for dates and hosted me for the home cooked meals.

I have never cooked for a man on a date, but several men have cooked for me. Yay!

Yeah, that's just how it is. Old fashioned values were and are the best. IN the example where she goes and gets some snacks and drinks for us, that's great. Even offering to take a turn paying for dinner (I'd never let you) is fine but any man who expects you to pay, pay half, or separate checks is someone to be avoided.

This is so stupid. All of your primping is optional, so a man has no obligation to “reimburse” you for it. Grow up.

Most men prefer women who are less primped. Just take a shower and put on some comfortable shoes.
Speak for yourself. I love it when a woman does herself up for me.

Kinda telegraphs your intentions . . . let's see how well this ATM works.

Not at all.....I just don't want to be deceived and out of $ at the same time.

Who cares? Last time i checked we're not copying Germany. They have their own problems (and sex trafficking/sexual slavery is a HUGE one)

She finally got married in her late thirties. Her husband works some low paying job while she works full time with no breaks. She always complains about him being lazy.

I do not understand this. Are you complaining about the “roll reversal”? So are women the only ones allowed to take low paying jobs while their husbands work the “real” job and make money? Some how I do not think you would be sympathetic to a DH who complained about never getting a break while his under employed “lazy” DW did nothing.

It's not about sympathy, it's about what women will and will not tolerate on the dating market. Sorry, no one is crying over these men, lol

So you hate the woman who insist on paying her own way? LOL oh the dating market will not tolerate this! Women will date broke losers who scrape up enough money for a cheap meal, women will date cheap social inept short rich man who splits the check, women will pick up the check for the two timing player. The “dating market” tolerates a wide range of things.

I couldnt care less what stupid, desperate women put up with. If anything I feel sorry for them. It's usually unattractive women who are just extremely desperate for any man at all. So glad not to be in that group, I'm sure it's hard mentally.

Wow that is misogynistic.

Sorry girl, nothing about that is misogyny. Just the cold, hard facts of who gets to be at the top of the heap in the dating pool, male or female. No one wants an ugly. I know it's hard to realize.

That’s what a lot of women on here are arguing—the man needs to pony up the dough on dates as admission price to the hallowed cooch.
