A lot of people failed this kid from the county social workers, to the shelter to the school. There were lots of checks and balances and no one did their job.

And mostly his mother as she gave birth to him and was responsible for him. He complained to his mom repeatedly. The others can't be blamed.

She didn't grow up here and didn't understand medical care in the US. Ultimately she is to blame but many others are as well, especially if they lived in a shelter. You are privileged in having money, health care and growing up here. Its not so simple if you don't have any of those things.

Most of us on here are highly educated and all of us have internet access so we can ask Dr Google questions. Not everyone does. And many of the best resources are in English. If you had little education and no internet access, you might not know to be as concerned.

Oh, please! It's not the school's job to take everyone's temperature. Schools are doing enough as is.
The social workers is another story but the main issue is with the kid's mother. At the end of the day, this was her child and her responsibility.

This is absurd, teacher. You do have a responsibility to your charges.

Teachers are not nannies. These are students, not “charges.”

The medical incident happened at school.

Tragically, yes. That still doesn’t make a teacher into a nanny or a student into a “charge.”

Well, if you have little education, no internet access and, most importantly, don't speak the language, you and your child are better off in your own country where you have relatives and social services, however limited they might be.
Flame away, I don't care.

People don’t always have relatives in their home country. And not all countries have a functioning social services system.

Apparently you have no idea what is going on in other countries. Many don't come here out of choice but survival.

You really have no clue about living conditions in many third-world countries. Oh right - you don't care.

I wonder if it was TB?

The reporting I have seen is not clear as to whether there was a public health concern in this situation, or whether this sudden death was the result of a medical problem that was not communicable. Does anyone know?

And please let's try to respect these folks' privacy otherwise.

Lord have mercy.

Respect their privacy but start a thread about it. Classy move

How do you know there was anything to report? This goes back on the mother. Noone else

Well, you can definitely tell from the 10 pages of responses that if I hadn’t started the thread there would have been crickets. For sure that seems true.

I can’t control the fact that so many posters here are horrible.

They only care if these tragic deaths happen on in Bethesda or Potomac. If this family had been placed in Hyattstown or Brighton there wouldn’t have been a thread.

Make up your mind. If immigrants are better off here than in their third-world countries, they will have to accept the fact that they come here not speaking the language or knowing how to work the system.
