I wish federal workers can sue the government for how they have been treated.

"I’m gonna break from the party line here on this. I’m a Democrat. I’m with John Fetterman and Angus King... The most basic function of Congress is to fund the government, turn the lights on, keep the government working so that the 3 million people who are public servants are able to do what they do.”

“I believe that Congress should vote to re-open the government. Apparently, you need seven Democrats to make that happen in the Senate. I think that the mistake our democracy is making is linking the need for that 60 votes to some other issue, even though it’s a very, very critical issue. Because what’s going to happen is that this will occur every fall from this point forward.”

How I miss the days of moderate and pragmatic Secretary Jeh Johnson.

Weird because Marjorie Taylor Greene blames the Republicans and doesn’t want her health insurance premiums to rise.

She has smore small donors than anyone else in Congress - she's hearing it from her constituents and small donors, they'd be crushed by the insurance hikes.

small donors = low IQ peasants who have been duped into thinking our major party politicians give a dang about the interests of everyday Americans. Every dollar donated to these corrupt entities is a dollar that supports only the interests of wealthy political mega-donors. These truths hurt.

If Democrats only cared about the wealthy, they'd have approved the House's CR already and there would be no shutdown.

Yes, of course because it's the wealthy people who have the most to lose while missing pay checks and essential services during the shut down....

They will get paid back. It’s about the long game. If Republicans cared about the non-wealthy, they would agree to negotiate.

and everyone claimed they were so so busy, and yet they left at 3:30 every day. and still found time to work out/ play bball every day.

They likely started at 7. I work 6 30 to 3 . 8 hours + 30 minutes unpaid lunch. I go to the gym after work. Not sure how you can tell how busy I am during my work day based on that.

Pentagon is not federal agencies. Federal agencies have been running on shoestring budgets for years. We fire no performer on my team because we constantly have two positions open that never get filled. We are a very lean org!

As a former fed manager I agree with the fact that there are some very "unproductive" employees. They all have manages. The issue IMO is the senior management and HR won't allow any meaningful discipline to occur. They'd rather pass along/park these employees and ignore them so the agency doesn't get sued. It's a big part of why I left. They ones who do work, are amazingly competent and dedicated and I really do miss their commitment to the mission and drive.

This and other recent shutdowns make me really appreciate the skill of Nancy Pelosi. There were no shutdowns that began while she was Speaker, and she helped end a shutdown that she inherited from Paul Ryan. Even with Republicans controlling the Senate and/or White House she was good enough at reading the room to produce appropriations bills that would become law in a timely fashion.

Exactly! This is about financial responsibility and trying to get a leash on this run away dog. It sucks that it had to happen, but the democrats do not want any restraints on how much of our money they want to use. Unfortunately, you can't tell the people around DC anything. They believe they are politically smarter than anyone else, when the opposite is true. They are used to living off the proceeds from the rest of the country. DC area residents are the equivalent of welfare recipients who don't understand where their money comes from or that they are being taken care of by other hard working Americans.
