"It's being told to us they can't reopen the government until after that rally, because they can't face their rabid base!"

"They have a Hate America rally scheduled for Oct. 18 on the National Mall. Pro-Hamas, Antifa people, they're all coming out. House Democrats selling T-shirts for the event."

"I have HAD it with these people. They're playing games with real people's lives."

This is a WWF-level storyline.

Jeh Johnson says Senate Democrats need to end the shutdown and stop hurting federal workers for their pet issue

"I’m gonna break from the party line here on this. I’m a Democrat. I’m with John Fetterman and Angus King... The most basic function of Congress is to fund the government, turn the lights on, keep the government working so that the 3 million people who are public servants are able to do what they do.”

“I believe that Congress should vote to re-open the government. Apparently, you need seven Democrats to make that happen in the Senate. I think that the mistake our democracy is making is linking the need for that 60 votes to some other issue, even though it’s a very, very critical issue. Because what’s going to happen is that this will occur every fall from this point forward.”

How I miss the days of moderate and pragmatic Secretary Jeh Johnson.

Keep it closed.

Ignorance is a bliss.

Not since before the Bush years...

Republicans are in charge of all three branches of government right now, they are the ones who need to govern.

And we all know Republicans want any excuse to fire federal workers right now. If it wasn't this, it would be something else.

With the cutbacks in the CDC and NIH, I can see a pandemic coming in the near future. Not that Republicans care.

Weird because Marjorie Taylor Greene blames the Republicans and doesn’t want her health insurance premiums to rise.

I agree with Johnson. The substance behind the disagreements that led to this shutdown isn't on par with past shutdowns. This is a matter of Dems in Congress taking an opportunity to make some noise and slow the GOP agenda. I get why they feel the need to do that but holding the American people and country as hostages in a shutdown isn't the best approach. Risk vs reward and damage vs progress calculations indicate voting to re-open the Federal Government is prudent.

Would love to see Johnson and Schumer hurting each other in a WWF cage match. Those cowards wouldn't answer the bell.

Jeh Johnson is a moron. Trump won’t stick to Congressional approved budgets and unilaterally impounds funds if he doesn’t like the program or agency. That’s why the government is closed.

Jeh Johnson is a corporate law partner that represents huge corporations. They are sending him out to do a song & dance to try to cajole Senate Dems. He’s earning his nut with this wimpy statement.

The days of normal function in Congress are gone as long as the GOP and Dem Parties are in control.

Not at this point. Country is already being held hostage by Vought and Miller. We don’t have a democracy anymore so what does it matter if Senate Democrats vote for a CR. Vought will just move around money to pay the people they want to pay. Miller will send out his thugs. Trump will bribe other country officials.

If anything, they should insist that Grijalva is seated first and the House returns to session.

Welcome to the modern day American political landscape with dysfunctional major political parties tied to a web of corruption that extends through every nook and cranny of our our public and private facilities.

That's another huge difference between the parties -

Democrats respect, value and support federal workers,
Republicans demonize, attack and vilify federal workers.
