Does anyone have details about this? Is this bcos of that dreadul Dr J?

| I am surprised they are allowed to graduate when failing a math course. |
| So, students are surprised that failing grades lead to consequences? And they are walking anyway because they asked for an exemption and got it. |
| Hmm… good question ^^. If you flunk a math class and in turn, don’t have enough math credits to graduate, is the student receiving a fake diploma? |
| If they failed a class, aren't they supposed to repeat it? |
That's because you're an idiot. Lots of kids in the neighborhood high schools are getting advanced diplomas. But they're still graduating high school and that means you walk. Ranked last in your class and graduating? You WALK. That's how it works. Having said that, I'm surprised that there are TJ kids who can't pass AP Calc. |
| There are different requirements for students to graduate with a "TJ" diploma compared to a regular high school diploma. Mukai initially told students that in order for seniors to walk at graduation, they must have a "TJ" diploma. |
They have enough math credits to graduate, they took and got an A in Algebra 1 in MS. You only need 3 math credits to graduate, you need 4 math credits for the advanced diploma. At TJ, you need Calc to earn the TJ Diploma. Students at TJ could fail two math classes and have the credits to graduate. I have no idea why a student would want to be at TJ if they couldn’t pass the math classes but I guess it happens. The article said that this was the first year the kids had to appeal to walk but that it has happened in the past. I can’t imagine that these students got into good colleges with F’s on their transcripts. |
| It's a ridiculous, elitist rule that Mukai decided to enforce. At any other high school, it doesn't matter if a student graduates with a standard or advanced diploma, they get to participate in the graduation ceremony. |
Because everyone deserves a trophy? |
|
My understanding is you still walk with your class, but diploma will be pending until passing required classes even at the University.
Approved to walk is the right call. The young people did not try to fail a class, they will have to deal with it this summer but not walking with the class would be unnecessary torture, what would be the point, to single them out? |
| Everyone knows TJ is not what it was before the admissions changes so the idea of a special TJ diploma in 2026 is a farce. |
|
The students fulfilled all requirements to earn an FCPS diploma, and therefore should participate in all the ceremonies of graduation.
It doesn't matter that they failed to earn the extra math credit that's specifically for TJ. Otherwise you're telling them that other kids who did much worse than them in other FCPS schools can walk, but they cannot, just because they're in a different building??? That's patently unfair on the face of it. Also, the letter families received was only a few days before graduation, leaving them with only a very short period of time to appeal. That's just plain mean. Why is TJ nitpicking, for God's sakes? These kids have a failed math class on their transcripts, but have still graduation requirements. Why shame them further? |
They had chances to improve the grade and didn't. So, they kind of did try to fail if they weren't doing what they needed to do to pass. |
I think you've replied several times with this ridiculous claim. Just stop. You can't do everything you want either. You too, have tried and failed in your life. It's better for these kids to shoot higher and fail one class, than not try at all. If they meet FCPS requirements, they should be allowed to walk. |
