What are your small indulgences?

We try to be frugal with the way things are now but I will get a bunch of flowers every week or two from the grocery store, usually a mixed bouquet. With flower food and recutting the stems I can often get at least a week to 10 days where they look perfect. There were 2 enormous lilies in the bunch I picked up last week that are currently perfuming the whole house.

Chick Fil A breakfast every Friday during the school year. I know it is a net negative for my wallet and health, but is a little self-serving tradition that I enjoy. I make a quick detour after taking the kids to school and savor the too buttery biscuit and artery-clogging fried chicken

Sometimes, I put a little lemon, just a tiny squirt, in my glass of tepid water.

Buying pre-cubed watermelon instead of a whole one and cutting it myself.

Real butter on my toast. Dressing my bed in fancy sheets and having several sets to pick from. A spa pedicure periodically.

Same.

Starbucks when I have to drive into the office. I pack a lunch but splurge on Starbucks two or three times a week.

Making French press coffee instead of Keurig (we have the $25 bodum and use TJ's beans).

Having fresh fruit (in-season, so not necessarily super expensive).

Sneaking a few things into the dry cleaning bag that don't need to be dry cleaned but are a PITA to do at home.

Lots of fun drinks stocked up. For us this is multiple sparkling water and spindrifts, sodas, juices, teas, protein shakes, and things like vitamin water. Truly an absurd drink storage closet we have.

Lip gloss in every room/car.

Time: taking a long walk with a good podcast or music. Getting a day to relax, tidy up, cook a good meal, etc...

On really special occasions maybe try a slice of cucumber in the water. Perfect for milestone birthdays or when you are made CEO.

Heavy cream in my coffee, every morning.

We bought a Breville Barista and I make myself a flat white every morning. I guess it was quite expensive ($600) so perhaps not a small expense, but it works out cheaper than buying coffee out, and it makes my day so much better. I wish I had done it years ago.

I buy myself an overpriced avocado toast and iced latte every Friday morning.

Monthly cleaning service. I love it. Such a nice reset, and makes it doable to keep up in between.

When we retired 6 months ago we agreed this was the one thing we’d keep. Ours is every three weeks and only our main floor.
