| It’s so cool!!! |

DCUM is too dumb to appreciate the mission.
|
| What makes it cool? They aren’t even landing on the moon, which is also something we did 57 years ago. |
They have gone further in space than any human ever. The high res pics are amazing. |
| The only science courses most DCUM folks ever took was "Rocks for Jocks." And even for that they got a C- |
| I'm an engineer, and it's always cool to see humans launch into space, and safely return, even if we've done it before. |
| Lots of people I know are talking about it. |
| Because so much stupid and destructive shit happening on earth. It’s a reminder of what we can do if we invest in science and aim higher. |
+1, I've been following it closely because it's making me feel more hopeful and happy than pretty much any other news story in years. The astronauts are also genuinely admirable and thoughtful people, as are many of the people at NASA and CSA who helped launch the mission. One thing the astronauts have emphasized in many of their interviews is how seeing the earth from a distance makes you really understand how precious it is, and how human beings are really just one big group, not a bunch of separate factions. Also the commander of the mission, Reid Wiseman, is local (from Maryland). One of my husband's colleagues went to high school with him. I hope more people start paying attention. It's special. Artemis III, which plans to land on the moon and look for ice using the information collected on this mission, is a scheduled for 2028. That's only two years away! Get excited! |
| What's cool about it? |
What is *not* cool about four humans doing a lap around the moon for the first time in over 50 years, going further from earth than any human has gone before. First woman to the moon, first black man to the moon, first Canadian to the moon. First time a toilet has left low earth orbit, lol. If you're too cynical to enjoy this, I feel bad for you. |
| Pedolph Shitler might drop the big one on Iran tonight. I'm a little more concerned about that. |
Right? This feels like a distraction. I’m not falling for it. Also, gas prices are astronomical (no pun) but we are spending money going to the moon *now*? Read the room. No one cares. We are trying to pay for gas and groceries and not lose our jobs and making sure we raise decent humans. Cool, we went further than ever before. What does that have to do with ANYTHING here on Earth? So what if the pics are cool? What does that really matter? |
| The race for dominancy of space is real. This is not just about cool—it’s also about defense. |
|
My teens are very into it!
This is a dumb question but have we seen the back of the moon before? I was a little like — what if they got to the other side and it turns out there’s like a big hole in it, or a rainforest, or a colony of Vulcans that have been studying us? Mostly just kidddijg, but was wondering if we might find something unexpected. |
