No supplemental essays. Acceptance rate can be easily manipulated.

Yep! No essays always lead to more apps and then a lower rate.

This shows how many people don't understand basic statistics. Did you read this?

We use completed applications in our statistics. These totals do not include deferred applications from the ED/EA rounds. Deferred students can withdraw at any time, so any RD total with the defers would be a snapshot of just one day.

You can't divide the offers by total applications because the total application number is undefined. The total is MORE than the number they cited because it would include the defers.

Did the RD emails go out?

DC is an example. Threw in an application in mid-December after being deferred ED from their first choice school. Why UVA? Because there were no supplementals this year, so DC figured why not.

No doubt a waste of money, but at the time it felt like a harmless act of self-soothing after the sting of deferral.

To UVA? No. By the time DC applied, I think it was for RD.

Haven't heard anything yet, as far as I know. But I'm assuming it will be a no given how few RD students UVA takes. (We're OOS.)

Sorry if I wasn't clear. No complaints or issues related to my kid!

I was just agreeing with the PP who said that by dropping the supplemental essays, UVA set themselves up to get more applications than ever this year - which in turn drove down the admit rate.

I was using my kid as an example. Meaning, if UVA had supplemental essays this year, DC would not have bothered to apply. Guessing there are plenty of other kids who did the same.

Anyway, good for UVA. Looking back on this whole process, my feeling is the fewer supplementals a kid has to write, the better!
