UVA 7% RD admit rate this year

This is such a silly thread. We all know that eliminating essays made it super easy to increase apps and thus reject more people. Acceptance rate manipulation at its “finest.”

Our CCO told kids to write a separate personal statement for UVA that combined a personal statement in the traditional sense with something UVA specific (almost like a why school essay). Similar to what transfer students do.

So your supplemental essays made their way into the personal statement if that makes sense.

Kids who executed it well had great results.

Interesting, never thought of that.

Good strategy - wish others had told us.

Ha! They are willing to share after.

Yes it was predictable but it’s still interesting to see the changes in the actual numbers. We can’t discuss that?

So you cannot go by those GPA numbers in Naviance for college admissions, not really. Senior year GPA is usually higher bc seniors are taking more weighted classes. So, a 4.45 is a great junior GPA that, barring senioritus, will bump even higher by graduation.

What about senioritis? I think it would be the opposite

why would you apply RD to UVA?

My favorite thing is when the Dean J lady says there is no difference if you apply ED, EA or RD.

Clearly that’s untrue. Yet intelligent people hang on to every word she says.

Can we please stop with this. Acceptance rate is NOT used at all in college rankings, and very specifically not used in US News rankings. Why would UVA care about "manipulating" its acceptance rate?

They dropped the questions because they wanted to avoid a fight with the U.S. government. Yes, it led to an increase in applications. But that was not the driver behind the change.

No one sees the connection to the DOJ?

She absolutely says that the EA round is most competitive and you shouldn't apply then if you don't have a great application.

Does she say that? I have heard her say EA vs RD, which in the past was true. I haven't heard her say that about ED.

If they stay with no supp for next year, someone should ask Dean J on reddit whether this is what they want. I'm not surprised this type of customized essay for a personal statement worked at UVA and would imagine many if not all good IEC would have advised this.

Yeah, she has said that the RD quality isn't as good as EA. I think she said EA then ED then RD for strength of pool.

My kid got in with his regular common app essay. If they want to hear “why UVA” they would ask it.

Like the Vtech supp essays

Yes, PP, the supplemental essay at UVA operated in much the same way that the supplemental essays at Va Tech work. That's why they were all called "supplemental essays."

It's astonishing that you needed this spelled out for you.
