| I feel like I'm being buried. But I can't do anything that would be disruptive to my job or family. Please help. |
|
OP, you have to put the oxygen mask on yourself first. You have to.
If you were in a car crash and were laid up in the hospital, your job and family would have to accept that. Mental health is as important as physical help. Please take care of yourself. |
Please be specific. What do I do? I don't know what to do. |
| Does your work have EAP? (Employee Assistance Program). |
No |
|
Get more sleep if you can.
Talk to trusted people and ask them for one help/favor. |
|
Call someone you know and trust, and ask for help. Also, it’s okay to be temporarily disruptive if it means you’ll get help. Usually “disruptive” means just small things like kids schedules will be impacted (so what) or you need to take a work break (c’est la vie!).
You are wise to admit you need assistance! |

I don't have anyone I trust I can ask for help. That's why I'm here.
I'll try to get more sleep tonight but I've been struggling with that. I've been staying up every night because when I lie in bed, my mind starts thinking about things I can't handle and I get overwhelmed. I can eventually fall asleep if I listen to a podcast but my sleep is not high quality. I know my sleep issues are making it worse but being alone with my thoughts is horrible. |
No I mean like I can't check myself into a psych hospital and I can't jeopardize my income. |
+1 OP, I’ve been there in feeling that I couldn’t slow down despite deteriorating mental health because of people relying on me. I’m still not great at it! However, if you don’t prioritize your mental and physical health, your body will make you pay later. Call your primary care doctor and see if you can get on a low dose antidepressant or anti anxiety med to get you over the hump. Then lifestyle changes - non-negotiable alone time by relying on spouse/any local family members or friends for help with kids, mental health days off work, getting outdoors as much as possible, catching up with friends, etc etc. it has to be very intentional. Please take care of yourself, there’s only one you. Hugs. |
| I went on Wellbutrin 2 years ago and honestly it was a game changer. I would feel buried, or spiral sometimes, never a classic depression. It all stopped once I started Wellbutrin. I 100% regret how long I suffered when this was the solution |
Are you an hourly employee? No sick leave? Most jobs would grant leave in situations like this but I don’t know your circumstance. Just getting Xanax might help cut the ruminations and sleep. But it sounds to me like you need a full time out to stabilize. |

Hi OP,
There is help available. I understand worrying about income but do you have a parent or sibling who can help with some temporary financial help? know I would help my family members. You need to prioritize your health over all else. Mental health is health. If you had a medical crisis like a stroke or heart attack you wouldn’t question getting care. If you are having thoughts of self harm please call or text 988 right away. If you are not in crisis, start with your insurance network to find affordable care. If you have difficulty, try contacting local mental health practices and asking about sliding fee scales. If you can’t find affordable care that way, contact NAMI or Mental Health America for resources. Please don’t delay. You matter. |
| You can text 988 now for someone to talk to immediately, and they may have more resources for you. |
| Are you in therapy? if not you can do video appointments I don't know what insurance you have but it might be covered. Get some pure 100% chamomile tea (its somewhat similar to the same ingredients in xanax). Sleep as much as you can. Things will work themselves out you don't have to "fix" everything right now. Put yourself first. Call family and friends just to talk and tell them you're struggling and opening up might help. Read hear me out it calms both sides of your brain. Don't ruminate on your problems. I hope you're feeling better soon. ❤️🫂 |
