Considering Wegovy, please share your experience

Anonymous
My Dr recommended I consider a GLP1. Her preference is Zepbound but insurance won’t cover it and out of pocket is not an option for me. Her second choice is Wegovy. I searched the archives but didn’t find much.
I’m interested in hearing experiences and advice from anyone who has used Wegovy.
Late 40s woman with BMI of 35, also taking HRT.
Thank you!

Everyone is pretty much on some type of weight loss drug. My husband is on it. What I noticed..

- it does not discriminate so you lose fat and muscle.
- it is best to eat healthy on it. My husband still has sweet cravings. He will literally go all day without eating and just eat a slice of cake for dinner.
- it slows down the other medications that he take. This causes some serious health concerns on his end.
- he has to play around with insurance every now and then. I am not too sure what he means by it but something like stop the drug and then restart it. I don’t know…
- it is a long term commitment. Specially financially, something like 400 a month
-it has given him no drive to work out, which is unfortunate to me as he looks frail.
-yes his blood work is better.
- he often complains about his stomach hurting.

OP and I should clarify, my insurance will cover Wegovy with pre-authorization so that is what I will go on if I choose one.

Have you looked in the Diet forum? There are tons of discussions on GLPs including Wegovy there.

That's disturbing and I've never heard about it before. Such a push for these drugs.

Mid 50s, no HRT. Went on Wegovy, went up to the full size dose, lost 50 pounds, no side effects other than losing weight. None.

Went off, and gained 35 pounds before going back on. Lost 30 and am now on a maintenance dose of Wegovy and I will stay there forever. People wear glasses forever, take high blood pressure meds forever, I will be on Wegovy forever.

On the bright side my cholesterol and blood pressure had been borderline for years, and both are now normal

I started the lowest dose a month ago and have maybe only lost 2 pounds. Food noise has not disappeared and I’m as hungry as ever. I start the next higher dose this week so I’m hoping that it helps.

I saw these, thanks! As you can see they are pretty generic with discussion about all kinds of different meds. As I don’t have any options, I wanted a streamlined discussion about Wegovy. Thanks for your kindness!

I began Wegovy in April of 2024, so I've been on it almost 2 years. I've lost about 75 pounds and have gone from an obese bmi (I think it was 34) to just within a "normal" bmi. It has not been easy -- side effects have been very rough for me. The GI stuff, (diarrhea bad enough to have accidents multiple times and bad constipation including impactions), yes, but the worst part was the fatigue. Debilitating fatigue. It got better as time went on, but was always bad enough to be a problem until I went down in dose to a maintenance dose a few months ago. I have, however, now put 5 pounds back on at the maintenance dose, and I do not like that trend. Saw my doctor this week and may go up in dose if I gain any more weight this month. It scares me though, because I don't want to deal with the side effects getting bad again. My doctor suggested trying zepbound, but my insurance doesn't cover it and even though my insurance coverage on Wegovy isn't great, there is some, and it costs significantly less than zep would cost me. And Wegovy is a known thing for me -- meaning I know it works.

It's all worth it to me to not be obese anymore. But it has not been a bed of roses. And I plan on being on the drug (or a GLP1, anyway) for life. My new fear is that the efficacy just totally wears off for all of us eventually. We'll see. Hopefully not.

It isn't unusual for a drug that causes delayed gastric emptying to effect the absorption of medications. It is rarely a big problem.

Not here

It's a health and medicine forum, it isn't bizarre that OP chose to post it here. You don't need to respond in a phobic way to this post with your exclamation marks and "Not here" stuff.
