I see things sometimes that say that a dish or meal is appropriate for GLP-1. But wouldn't most healthy meals qualify? And is the impact of eating something no one should really eat greater than it is for other people? Doctor told my loved one to avoid fast food, for example. Is fast food even worse when you're on a GLP-1?

Your loved one needs to make better food and meal choices.
Skipping fast food isn’t a bad idea |

I'm not a food or a nutrition expert, but I've been on the lowest dose of a GLP-1 for a few months. The most common advice is to focus on protein in order to preserve muscle. You want to eat foods that are nutrient dense because you will be eating a lot less. I have a hard time getting in my fruits and veggies because I am just not very hungry.
Fast food, greasy/oily foods, junk food - at best you'll fill up and not get in the "good" food. At worst (and more likely), you'll have terrible stomach aches and diarrhea. You could probably have 10 fries off your friends plate without issue after you've been on it for a while, but everyone's different. |

With an appetite suppressant it’s I
Pity any yo make sure you are getting enough fiber, protein, veg. Fast food will result in nausea and deficiencies. |
| I’m on one and my dr emphasizes getting at least 100 grams of protein each day. Fortunately, I’m a big fan of cottage cheese. |

I did a ton of reading and asking questions about this before I started and it boils down to this. The quantity of food will be small, so you want to make sure the quality is high. Protein so your body loses fat instead of muscle, and nutrient-dense foods so you're getting the vitamins and minerals you need. Fast food doesn't really fit into this. I can often have 1 good meal a day so it wouldn't work to "waste" it on fried food with no nutritional value. Also, for some, fried food is hard to digest and causes stomach discomfort or diarrhea, but I didn't find that to be true.
I'm not perfect and there were plenty of times I wasn't hungry for a real meal and had some ice cream for dinner. Which will lead to weight loss since the calories from a scoop of ice cream are way less than I would have consumed at dinner before the medicine (and I would have also had the ice cream), but that's not healthy and no one is going to recommend you just eat any calories. The bottom line is to eat your calories smartly so you can still function and have good overall health, unrelated to the weight loss. |

Everyone's body is different.
The advice I got from the dietician my doctor had me see shortly after I went on Wegovy (a year and a half ago now), was to prioritize protein (to build muscle and protect against muscle loss) and fiber (to regulate digestion -- I had a lot of constipation). Aside from trying to bear that in mind, which I did religiously in the beginning when I could barely eat, I haven't given any thought to "what is appropriate for GLP1" use. I don't consciously avoid fast food, but I rarely eat it anyway, and I am never hungry enough to eat a lot of it (for example at BK a couple of weeks ago I ate an about 2/3 of an original chicken sandwich and barely touched the onion rings I got -- I simply couldn't eat them, and I don't drink any soda, and for another example when my DH and I order a pizza I'll eat about 2 pieces, not half of it like I used to). I do try to avoid large amounts of sugar, but that is because it can trigger GI side effects for me. But that is relatively easy for me, I've never had a sweet tooth. For me I eat pretty much what I want, I just eat a lot less of it now. I am still having a protein/fiber breakfast I figured out with the dietician most days, even though that was a long time ago (plain Greek yogurt, berries, prunes, nuts and seeds). |
Same. I have been making a lot of soup because it's an easy way to pack in a lot of good stuff, I can have any portion size I want at any time and it's been cold. Pretty perfect food. I also started buying egg beaters again. |
Fast food gives me terrible GI trouble on GLP-1. It's the oil. Otherwise, as a PP said, you're looking for high nutritional value because you need to make your meals count. High protein to help with muscle loss (this is true on most weight loss diets). I've never seen a meal marketed to GLP use. |

Fast food is a bad idea no matter what, LOL!
But my stomach feels full and gross if I eat something greasy. |
| Protein is important but fiber is under appreciated. It’s very easy to get backed up. |

Main guideline the doc gave me was to make sure I get enough protein and fiber and liquids.
I don't really suffer if I eat fast food on Zepbound, but being on Zepbound just makes me not want to eat fast food much because I don't crave it. If I do eat some, like when I go out with other people, I am usually satisfied with a much smaller portion. |
Ugh and fiber is so filling. |

I used to eat fast food A LOT (2 kids in travel sports.) I have been on GLP1 for 11 weeks and have had no desire to have fast food - it just doesn't sound appealing. I have had burgers (typically split with DH - also on GLP1) and a few fries off my kid's plate from time to time with no ill effects.
Getting enough protein is hard for me because I am just not hungry. I try to eat yogurt with fruit/granola in the AM and then a lunch with substantial protein (40g or so) and but then I am not hungry for dinner and end up eating a protein bar at 9p when I am finally hungry. |
