How to stop feeling angry?

Anonymous
I'm in a mood that is just "mad". There are some valid reasons for it, but nothing I can do anything about right now, so instead I'm just feeling pissed off, and I would prefer not to.

Any tips on how to let go of this anger? Normally I'd work out but I am currently injured (one of the reasons I'm mad!) and under doctor's orders not to do any exercise more strenuous than walking -- I can't even do yoga for another week+.

Any ideas?

Meditation and music. Meditation is yoga for the mind. Your favorite happy songs are like Prozac. Finally look for and list the good around you. Simple things like birds and sunrises and the continued existence of Mel Brooks. Big things like shelter and food and the fact that although you are injured you have access to doctors to treat you. The more you look for good things, the more you will find.

Thank you, that's helpful.

Look into therapy. It can help people like you.

My tips are:
1) Go to bed early
2) Drink more water than usual
3) Read calming books - light, funny novels, nonfiction that you know won't be upsetting, etc.
4) Get something under control - declutter and organize a drawer, make an appointment or send an email you have been putting off - something that gives you a small easy win and makes you feel in control.

Breathe in through nose count of 4
Hold count of 7
Whoosh breathe out through mouth count of 8

Repeat 4 times. Heart slows.

Yeah - get on a consistent, solid sleep routine. It makes a world of difference in everything. Hang in there.

Journal. Process the anger. Surrender the things you cannot control right now. Fighting with reality is exhausting.

Journal about what might make you feel better, and do that.

If you’re perimenopausal, and it’s hormonal rage, read a good book or watch a movie that will make you cry to get it out.

Don’t judge yourself. Give yourself some grace.

Do walking, outside, in the sunshine.

Good suggestions above.

You can also direct it somewhere productive. Write a letter to elected officials about some injustice or report to the city where public sidewalks or curb cuts still have not been cleared enough for people in wheelchairs.

OP here and it might partly be hormonal rage, thanks for mentioning that!

Drugs, man. Good ones.

Sleep. Sunshine (even just sitting in it). A light book or show. More sleep.

Is your upper or lower body injured? If it's just lower, get a speedbag. And hit that mofo hard.

If upper, find the seated elliptical at your gym.

If in the middle, I'm sorry.

Try audiobooks. I use them as a distraction. If you want one that will make you laugh, try Mary Jane by Jessica Blau.
