Checking people’s backgrounds

Are there services that are actually legitimate and worth spending money on where you can check a person‘s background? I know there are ways to look up court cases and real estate information but I just want to dig a little deeper.

If you’re dating someone, I think it makes more sense to just learn about them and verify the things you can if you’re nervous. Most of us are pretty searchable.

What is it that you are looking for?

FWIW, I actively scrub my information from those places. Most people should. Too much potential for invasion of privacy or misunderstandings.

For example, I recently found out that someone with my (unusual) name down to the same middle initial is on a registered sex offender list. They're 10 years younger and live in a different state, but even so...

You think it's prudent to run a background check on a potential employee but not on someone you are considering sharing your life with?
