Looking for some schools that are similar to Elon:
- 5,000-10,000 undergrads - school spirit - acceptance rate above 50% - about a 5-hour drive or less from the DMV in any direction (well, not east!). |

I do not think of these as similar to Elon in vibes, but they meet your criteria, for the most part
Duquesne Salisbury American Christopher Newport |
| Marist |

High Point
UNC Asheville Coastal Carolina Xavier Miami OH Ohio University in Athens, OH Marshall St. Joe’s Duquesne |
Thank you. The vibe is important for my kid. He actually wants bigger, but we want him to have at least a couple of smaller but not tiny schools on his list. I personally loved American (he didn’t). |
| Furman |
| That mid range is hard. Look at the Jesuit schools. |
| Miami (Ohio) is bigger and a bit further away, but might be worth a look. There are not many that fit that criteria. |
| Quinnipiac |
| Compromise on honors at a state flagship. Look at Capstone at U South Carolina |
| Bucknell |

Very surprised at the responses thus far as, in my opinion, none of the recommended schools are anything like Elon beyond the acceptance rate.
Ned to know what your son/daughter likes about Elon. Without more particulars, I encourage him to consider Bucknell University.Smaller than 5,000 students, but has school spirit and is a rich kid school like Elon. Villanova is similar, but highly competitive for admissions. |
Our friends tell us American has zero school spirit. It works for their DS for a variety of reasons. But I'm not surprised a kid who likes Elon was not a fan. |
| I have a kid at Elon, they also liked Furman and Wake Forest which is obviously a tougher admit. I haven’t personally toured, but from things I’ve read on here maybe Miami of Ohio or Fairfield have sounded similar in vibe? The medium size schools outside of Jesuit and urban locations are tougher (we like those too), but I really love the size. |
OP here. Yes, the school spirit is what he likes (and what he didn’t get from AU). He already has a lot of the publics with 20k+ students on his list, but we would like him to have Elon and one or two more one notch down in size on his list so he has options (he’s a junior). |
