Parents were cool and got along--even, or especially, Stars and Pride. YJ folks were great as well.

Tournament was well-run even if parking is a rip-off. Rehoboth was chill for time in between, especially given the late games.

Other than the heat, not a bad time.

So the pessimists who will inevitably respond with some troll nonsense, can vibe-check themselves.

Positive signs for the future meaning CLC Blue will be a good team?

I think many of the players this weekend will have a good chance to make blue. It will take some time, but once they click together, they will be very strong. Plus, I know there will Be a few more players who will want to come to Capital that are strong players as well

So, yes, they will be a good team

Agree with this. That's what I was suggesting in the OP.

What would make this Cap Blue team great would be if they can poach some of the local MD teams (Heros) talent.

Very true. If Cap Blue could nab the very strong four Moco girls playing for Hero’s that would be huge. Their parents will tire of the commute eventually, right? One can hope.

This will not sit well with the local Mama Bears. Don’t underestimate the politics and the purse string.

I would argue that having the best possible team would "sit well" with the parents of players who make it. That should be, and probably is, Capital's goal.

One would think, but there are head-scratching selections every year. It would be an incorrect assumption to say all the best players join Capital. Four area players in this year’s graduating class were recognized as PoY in their respective conferences. None played for Capital, but certainly had Capital Blue players on their high school teams. Capital’s intent could be fielding the best team, but like it or not politics will and has been a factor when selecting teams.

What is meant by “politics?” Does this mean girls who have done HB workouts and are known to Capital? Something else?
Anonymous
Do you know that those four players actually tried out for Capital?

Not saying there is no politics at play, but that doesn’t necessarily prove your point unless they all tried out and were not selected.

Plus players develop at different times so the best players the summer before 9th grade may not be the best players come graduation time…

Why does everyone think we need to poach from Hero’s, M and D, or Skywalkers? Every Capital team does just fine without taking girls from any of those teams.

Capital will be fine without any of those girls, and my kid won’t have to travel nearly as far

“Everyone” thinks we beed to poach from Heros, Skywalkers and M&D? I am the previous poster and I only mentioned Heros because there are some really good players who live in the area that may want to give Capital a look. I am going to work hard to make sure that they do. B/c I want the best Cap Blue team as everyone should.

How many local players play on MD teams?

Probably 6 or 7

There is zero incentive for them to tryout for Capital. If they are on Hero’s Green, M and D Black, or Skywalkers Blue, it would do them no good to move to Capital. They will stay where they are, unless they are getting playing time. But then they will hate Capital because it is equal time

Might not be politics, just bad evaluation, or maybe certain girls had better or worse tryout, it happens. Look at the AS teams.

Isn't most all clubs equal PT come HS?

Not sure I understand this. You keep saying “zero” incentive when a pp pointed out that commuting to Howard County is a major incentive. If they are not happy with playing time on MDteam then at least they will be playing 50% of the time on Capital. Heros, M&D and Skywalkers all have established recruiting and are every but as good if not better than Capital but Capital also has a fantastic recruiting track record and that is what it is all about. So proximity and solid recruiting are big pulls to Capital. I hope the tryouts are not just Stars and Pride - hope it is really about putting the best girls on the team no matter where they are from.

Yes, some Capital posters have come on this board to proclaim their club is the only one practicing this policy. My DDs club did this almost to a fault, never putting all the best players on the field at one time. They played in the highest brackets of tournaments, valuing equal time over wins which is important. Most parent’s frustrations were around never having the best 12 on the field at the same time.

I will also add, not all Capital teams practice in VA. Some practice at Holy Cross HS which if holds true for 2028, would be quite convenient for the MoCo girls on MD teams.

All of the Capital teams practice at the same place

In the Fall they practice on Sunday I’ at Holy Cross.

In the Summer they practice at various locations in DC and VA

I hope the Heros girls and any other MD clubs with girls in the area try out for Capital next year. Should be some stiff competition.

You are probably in the minority then. Others don’t want the hero’s competition coming back.

It’s not that I don’t want them back. It’s that they thought they were to good to stay back here and play. So I want them to stay where they are so that when we get to Capital we can beat them

I’m not petty, I just don’t care

I want Capital to be very bad so my daughter, who is also very bad, can make the team. And just by having Capital on her resume she will be able to trick colleges into thinking she is good. Genius.

So, you don’t like the fact that parents were dissatisfied with their clubs (in this case 4 BLC and 1 NL) and decided to sacrifice their time to get them on a better lacrosse team than ride it out on teams that were not giving their daughters the best experience? That, to you, makes those parents think they are better than you? Hmmm. Maybe they are.
