My new partner is positive for HSN-2. They are on valtrex taken regularly.
Outbreak is how they found out they have it. But they were dormant for 3 years. What are the risks for oral and PIV? |
| That's a no from me dog! |
| Research. Ask your doctor. Don’t ask here. |
|
I wouldn’t take the risk unless married. If you catch it and you break up, there goes your sex/dating life.
Also not sure your child status but HSV can cause major complications during pregnancy. If kids are in your future, that’s something to think about. |
| I'm sorry. A long term bf gave it to me. Agree with PP, set up an appointment to talk to your doctor to get an exam and discuss testing. But the risks are ... high. |
| You should speak to a doctor. Medication reduces but does not eliminate the risk of transmission. |
This. No thanks. |
| Wow hard pass no pun intended. |
Your dating pool would shrink, but it would not disappear completely. |
Not to scare you OP, but a friend had HSV and ended up having an anencephalic baby which was stillborn (or perhaps aborted) in the 8th month. The whole situation was tragic. She and her DH went on to have 3 typically developing pregnancies and deliveries. But, it is important to know that herpes during pregnancy can cause serious birth defects. |
| I take Valtrex but that is only when I am about to get a cold sore |
| OP is likely male - women have this infection more often |
That’s HSV1 |
| If you take precautions, you’ll be fine. Talk to a doc. I’ve had five minor outbreaks in the 13 years I’ve been married and DH and I have been condom-free that whole time. He hasn’t gotten it. |
Never heard of it. Good luck. |
