Very rare among whites at less than 4% and definitely a dealbreaker for most, but over 45% of blacks have it, and over 75% of gays have it and it's no big deal.

I’ve had it for 20 years and I literally take medication once every 1-2 years when I think one might be coming on. It usually doesn’t materialize. My spouse has never caught it.

I have a good friend who has been rejected by a few guys because of this. Funny thing, she is an incredible woman (hence her being super up front about it) and they missed out over something seriously minor. She ended up with a phenomenal guy. People DGAF about HPV, but that’s the one that can literally kill you.

Seriously, I find most adults still have an adolescent attitude about HSV but are super casual about other STDs that are more than just an inconvenience. Also, y’all already have herpes, just FYI. That’s why you have or will get your shingles vax.

The perception of HSV vs what it actually is, is really wild to me. Most people will have more painful pimples than a HSV outbreak. There are so many people walking around with HSV2 that have no idea since it’s not part of testing. Yes it’s can cause complications during birth if you have an outbreak but that is something that’s preventable/manageable. Appreciate those that tell you, use protection as appropriate and carry on.

Many people get HSV while very young, before they are sexually active. HSV-1 is extremely common, even among people who never had sex, because people share bottles, forks, etc., and HSV-2 can be transmitted orally too. There are reasons why standard STD panels don't test for either HSV-1 or HSV-2. The reasons are that all types of HSV are extremely common and not a very big deal for people who have them.
