| I don’t know of any other US region where people are so infatuated with their location, wallowing in it endlessly and holding it up as the best place to be from. |
|
Due to heritage of the area.
Most of the aristrocratic English, Scots, Welsh settled there. Is why tea, sweet 16's, big outdoor parties, horse races, brunch and sunday dinner, gowns and dresses, English style horsemanship, etc. are still huge there. |
| Uh what? Texas, NY, Boston, Chicago, Californians, Mid West Folks, all are obcessed with where they live and think its the best. |
|
Some people definitely feel it is their identity. Just like some New Yorkers (NYC), Californians, etc.
I am Texan and live in Texas. So, yeah. |
| Because they are overcompensating for low self esteem. They have a chip on their shoulder about being southern. |
Ahhh...so how do you explain New Englanders, Californians, New Yorkers, etc being obsessed with their cultures, schools, architecture, deb balls, aristocracy, country clubs, wealth, etc? |
| The War Of Northern Aggression, that's what they call The Civil War |
Yeah there are people who think where they're from is the best all over, and half the time the things they think are distinctive are the same as the things other places think are distinctive. If you want a real trip talk to a proud Rhode Islander sometime. |
Call them Scooter or something. "Now pipe down Scooter!"
|
This. So many regions are like this. It's actually more interesting to talk about which regions tend to produce people who are more neutral about their region or more chill about the idea that other areas might also be good. Like: the Pacific Northwest, the Southwest and Mountain West (excluding California), Florida (they know we all laugh at them and most of them understand why). All of those places actually have really great stuff in them, so its interesting you never hear someone going on and on about how they are from the BEST place even if that place is, like, Colorado, which is actually legitimately really great! |
| It's all about traditions, style, food and attitude. I'm not from the South, but my MIL is southern (Texas/New Orleans) so I'm just guessing - but love the energy! |
Most Southerners don't call it this. Though the fact that any of them do is pretty gross. But I know plenty of people from the Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana (including a bunch of black folks) and none of them call it the War of Norther Aggression. But then they aren't racist, so that's probably why. |
| Wait until OP discoveres the SouthWest, or Seattle, or Cali-valley-girl culture. |
Nonsense. |
It's a thing. Always heard southerners call it that, since the corporate controlled north attacked the southern states for seceding. Same as England attacked the colonists for breaking up with them. |
