Not really. Few places have less of a sense of place than Maryland. |
That’s not true. English aristocrats and gentry did immigrate to the southern United States, particularly to colonies like Virginia and the Carolinas, to establish a hierarchical society based on plantation agriculture and a planter class. These immigrants were often second and subsequent sons from the lesser gentry, were motivated by economic opportunities and sought to recreate a social order similar to England's, distinct from the more egalitarian settlements in New England. |

Regardless of the correct terminology, they weren't treated as equals. |
| Why are Long Island people so proud of that? |
I don’t get it. You want Southerners to be proud of being Northerners? Westerners? |
Nice try but my family wasn’t even in the US until the 1920s. Not sure why you feel the need to protect the South so much with your whataboutism. |

Just calm TF down about the South. No one else cares. |
That’s very interesting and maybe more where you are in the south. Not my experience at all as a recent transplant from NoVa to Eastern NC. It’s a rural area and has taken some time to adjust but is very welcoming if you leave your DC attitude back up north. Nobody cares! |

Because the older you get and more you experience the more you appreciate and value being a southerner.
Southerners teach and expect better manners and etiquette. They value the art of conversation, dislike bragging and name dropping and care what others think about them. They know how to entertain, the men love women and women aren’t expected to be men. I am grateful every day that I’m a southerner. There are many instances where I encounter a very rude person and remind myself they don’t know any better. |
Example A of what OP was talking about. I’m half inclined to think that this is parody, but sadly I think not. |
What part do you not like? |
Well, let’s first start with the hypocrisy. Southerners “dislike bragging.” What was that entire post but a massive pat on the back at southern superiority? |
