Agree about the last movie! I just think AJLT is missing some comic relief that Samantha added. Although rarely, she was also a big sister to Carrie. |
I think it could have been done well if they explored other sides of her character. How she coped with cancer was refreshing back in the day. There was also a glimpse of Samantha not obsessed with sex during that time too. It was well done and they could have explored her next chapter. However, given how they handled the movies it’s likely her character would have remained a sex-obsessed senior citizen which would have been boring as hell. |
We actually don't know that yet. |
True. I'm finding it difficult to envision satisfying storylines for her character at this point. They certainly hashed the age thing to death in the last movie, what's left? Viewers are so attached to Smith, but hard to see that storyline being revived either. |
I love Kim C and Samantha, but agree the character probably hit a dead end. With the exception of the crazy OTT Che character, I think the new additions, and new dynamic, works pretty well. I agree with PPs that Samantha should have a spin-off series in London, with occasional crossover appearances. |
We should start a fan fiction piece for AJLT that includes Samantha married to Smith raising an adopted kid or Smith's love child that he never knew existed until he got famous and an old one night stand reappeared and then died. I'd love to see Samantha as a step-mother to a an older teen/college student. I'd also prefer to see Miranda with a happy ending with Steve. And, I'd like to see Trey resurface along with Aidan. I'd also like to see the women reckon with the crime in current day NYC. There's zero chance any of them would be walking around all dolled up with flashy bling in NYC today. |
I like all of these ideas. Trey resurfacing with a fabulous preppy wife and a passel of preppy kids, who maybe enroll at Charlotte's kids' school, would be interesting. A cameo by Bunny McDougall would be worth the price of admission. But I think poor Aidan should be left alone, Carrie's teased and tormented him enough. |
Or maybe she sees Aiden in his furniture shop and has an amazing wife/kids. She doesn’t disturb him but we know he got his happy ending. That is all I would want from Aiden. No story line for him. |
We knew from the movies he got his happy ending, then of course the second movie had to blow that up by having him make an adulterous pass at Carrie. Ugh. |
I’d love to see Aidan living his best life with a wife and kids along with success—perhaps with a popular furniture line and media following that prompts an intersection with Carrie. Then Carrie could reflect on woulda/coulda/shoulda. Trey’s kids at the same school would be great! (Why couldn’t he sleep with me yet he gave her 4 kids!!!). |
I’d love to see a neurotic Burger with Carrie. They could wallow together. |
I like the new additions also and think they make more sense than Samantha with the story line she had. For her to work they would have to drastically change her character and I just don’t see it. A spin-off of her in London would make more sense…new life, new friends and a different storyline for her. |
She totally knew and is just using to do damage control https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/chris-noth-sex-and-the-city-and-just-like-that-b1980658.html |
Carrie needs to be on her own. For awhile. And if she does date, it can't be some re-tread from the past like Aidan or Burger. (They aren't the only men in New York besides Big.)
I'd like to see the ladies find out that Big was broke and/or he willed his money to someone other than Carrie. But she'll survive when her columns are optioned for Netflix or similar. Then she'll make enough money to buy herself a big house in the Hamptons or the Vineyard, where she'll find fulfillment volunteering at a SAG retirement home. But she won't be able to do any of it without also selling her own apartment, which she will finally do. It's time for Carrie to let go of the past, to mourn the life she had (alone and with Big), and to reinvent herself (hopefully as someone more mature) in middle to late age. They all need to let go of who they were. That is what it means to be middle aged and should be the overarching theme behind any of the arcs. |
I finally finished the first episode - and I had really low expectations. But I thought it was really good. Definitely some uncomfortable moments, but those all seemed intentional.
Re: Carrie asking Big to masturbate - it totally made sense in that moment! She wasn't being prurient or coy. She was trying to keep her job and she felt like getting less prudish about masturbation was one step toward that - and even still she was very prudish! I thought it was very in character. Re: not calling 911. Obviously that was terrible. But I'm not even sure he was actually alive in that scene. I think the eyes and hand might have been a bit of an hallucination. Anyway, finding this way better than I thought it would be given all the talk. Obviously Chris Noth is now dirt - no offense to dirt - but, that aside (to the extent it can be aside), I thought the portrayal of his relationship with Carrie was very warm and loving, and believable. |
