This is going to result in Democrats winning 10 of Virginia's 11 House districts. Reminder: Virginia is purple state. That's completely ridiculous. Why don't you just ban Republicans from voting altogether?

Politicians gaming the rules to nullify the votes of people they don't like is some shady fkcng business, and this genie does not go back in the bottle. When Republicans come back into power, as they inevitably will, I'm surely they do the same thing to Democrats, but worse. It's never just tit for tat.

Gerrymandering is stupid. It disenfranchises voters. It makes Congress *completely* dysfunctional. And it sets off an endless cycle of retribution between the parties. All if this is especially dumb because Democrats are going to win the House and Senate, anyway, even without this.

Ballot initiatives are how the powers that be get stupid people who don't know anything to approve dumb ideas.

My favorite is how they say it's only "temporary." It's never, ever, ever temporary. Do not believe any politician, Democrat or Republican, who says something is only for the time being.

It's temporary because the maps are statutorily required to be redrawn after the 2030 Census.

Are you actually this stupid or just pretending to be?

it doesnt say that it just says temporary meaning they can call in a "fairness" request at any time

It does not say that. Stop lying.

If 48.5% of Virginians vote repuplican but maps reduce them to just 1 of 11 seats (9.1%), then nearly half the state has been compressed into only 9% representation.

That means they lost about 81% of their political voice when seats are allocated.

Maybe if Republicans has conducted themselves differently in the past few years, more than 48.5% would have voted against this measure.

Ok. If you don’t like that then push the GOP to ban gerrymandering.

Why? So you can do a popular vote and remove representation.

Why? To end gerrymandering.

Are you ok with gerrymandering or not?

We had a ban on gerrymandering.

Not nationally.

Are you ok with gerrymandering or not?

it is a state issue ban it in va

Why would we give VA voters fewer rights than TX voters. Pass federal legislation against partisan jerrymandering tomorrow and get “your votes” back.

The Trump administration eviscerated the federal workforce, went to war in Iran without a plan, bilked taxpayers for millions of dollars for his personal enrichment, and gave pardons to criminals who donated to his campaign, all while Virginia's GOP representatives have abdicated their oversight authority and given his actions their full-throated endorsement.

Maybe they shouldn't have?

They'll never take away anyone's right to vote because that would be too obvious. Instead, they'll do things to make your vote completely meaningless. That is how you disenfranchise people.

Those do all seem like bad choices if you’re trying to make people in VA keep you in power, yeah…

Particularly interesting to me is that Virginia is historically VERY against jerrymandering. The prior initiative to establish bipartisan commission passed with 15% approval. It really shows how horrified people are by whats happening.

Is that a joke? People didn't even understand what they were voting for. It was just "if you hate Trump vote this way." That's what ballot initiatives always do. They do something sleazy and then they sell it to the public by saying "vote yes if you love puppies."

Is it your impression that a majority of voters in VA are happy with the present one party rule in Washington and would like to maintain it in the next election?

I’m sure they mean that only the Democrats were too stupid to know what they were voting for. The Republicans are always right apparently.

You sound like a bratty teenager. Maybe you should listen to the adults who say this is obviously going to be struck down by the courts because the language used on the ballot was plainly deceptive. If there's one thing you absolutely cannot do with these things, it's use misleading language on the ballot. You have to be extremely clear about what is being proposed.

Hm. Perhaps if Republicans spent less time banning books and more time reading them, they could acquire greater fluency with the language.
