Jesus would teach a person who is able to support themselves not to be on welfare their whole lives, unlike the intergenerational welfare we have now.

You are not "owed".

I believe his primary commandment was to love.

Not making people who are perfectly capable of independence, dependent on others is love. Tough love, but love nonetheless.

It's a safety net. Most people are on it temporarily. This idea that the program is full of people who do not need it is not based in reality. Making people in need out to be lazy moochers isn't love, tough or otherwise.

Not really. Many, many are on it for years. They are a lot of exemptions that pretty much make it possible for anyone to be on it for years. If you have children under 14 (and keep having children) or take care of anyone, you could be on it for years. You can get waivers if you meet the 20 hr per week work requirement and stay on it for years as well.

Those children deserve to be fed in this country.

They didn't choose their parents

I know a lot of snap recipients and I’ve been on it myself when I lost my job in 2020.
The ones that don’t really need it are:
-parents of highly skilled professionals who were brought here via family immigration, and are low income on paper due to not having worked in the U.S. Their kids help them out but they also get snap and other assistance after the first five years here. Some categories get them even earlier;
- people who are paid cash for their work and don’t report it;
- those with rental properties they rent out for cash do not reported;
- probably an outlier but a couple that had a large crypto portfolio and sells some of it every now and then to live off of. It is technically an asset so zero income and max benefit.

However, the majority are people who either wouldn’t survive without them (elderly or disabled) or are stupid enough to genuinely pit themselves in a position to need it (those having kids they can’t reasonably support, or those never even trying to get an education).

To add,
Another category that might actually benefit from having to get a job is young people with “mental disabilities” like social anxiety that supposedly prevents them from working. Plenty of jobs where you don’t interact much.

If you think republicans are going to get blamed when democrats keep voting no on the CR, you’re living in an echo chamber.

The fact that democrats , no matter the reason, are the ones voting no is what lays the blame on them. Most people are not sophisticated with their viewpoints and many do not have time or energy to listen to Dems explain their decisions.

The money is taken out of their paychecks by the employer, same as for us.

Everytime they buy something they are paying sales tax too

People are on SNAP because of their income. I am 100% certain they would take a higher paying job if they had the chance. I wish people would stop seeing poverty as a moral failing. The prosperity gospel BS is not Christian.

67% are on it for 2 years or less. The 1/3 who are on it longer are more likely to be elderly or disabled.

And with the dwindling abortion options and birth control under attack, even people who want to have only the number of children they can take care of will be out of options.

Only 28% of SNAP households had any earned income at all in 2023.

These people are moochers.

This is not supported by the data. Most people are on it temporarily.

i agree.

and the idea that we should increase the supply of workers with cheap desperate low wage workers, so that inflation is low, is not Christian

we are replacing our own citizens to increase the wealth of the elites. and people think that is ok.

25% of Haitian immigrants are on SNAP.
45% of Afghan immigrants are on SNAP.
52% of Senegalese immigrants are on SNAP.

DC is redistributing wealth by stealing from productive Americans to subsidize foreigners and their way of life. That is unacceptable and America Last.
