Nah, Lots of schools will be around 100% despite Woodward opening and Woodward/WJ area is going to keep growing. Tons of constructions. There is no space to add Churchill kids on top of this. I would have liked entire study to be one but MCPS opted to keep them separate, but capacity wise it's not possible for Woodward to absorb everything. |
Churchill needs 246 seats, but could well resolve the overcapacity in a few years with immersion students leaving. Montgomery county is losing people, not gaining. People are fed up and fleeing from this high tax trap to other counties. It’s only getting worse. |
Immersion students will still occupy seats somewhere. There is hardly empty seats when you tally Woodward study. Ideally, both study should have been done as one. Also, ES study should have done at same time. once you have data it liteally take very little effrot to figure out better options. Anyway, what we have , we have. |
Immersion students could have been sent to Crown? They're all going to school out of the area of their school based on residence anyways right? |
In all options, Whitman still has space. Seriously we should be worrying in 10 years if they can keep 80% occupancy in many schools. It’s a huge waste of tax dollars. |
It will be diluted because you won't have the highest performers concentrated in one program. RMIB has the most IB classes of all the regionals because the demand is there. It has magnet designated classes starting 9th grade to 10th grade (RMS), then they start the IBDP in 11th grade. The other regionals don't have that. If they could have done it, why didn't they? |
+1 there is a ton of new construction going on around RM, QO, GHS neighborhoods. |
That doesn’t mean people are moving into Montgomery county. With higher taxes and fewer jobs due to federal layoffs, we’re going to see exodus of people. |
More than likely some units will be sold or rented out. |
Churchill is easy to solve. Move Seven Locks to Whitman |
Funny it started with a new school needs to be built to relieve overcrowding. Now the narrative shifted to new school needs to be populated. |
It's not a narrative shift. When you build a new school to relieve overcrowding, then yes, you have to populate it. |
They should leave room with all the building on the pike. |
Not necessarily. They are doing some hiring and people will find other jobs. |
Don’t see the overcrowding as MCPS projected a few years ago to justify the crown high school. For long people on this forum said Wootton is only in this study because of the Rio triangle as QO/RM/gaithersburg have enough students to populate crown. Guess what? The projection was completely wrong. |
