+1 - LOL. I don't mine Kate and Phillip's rushed (for the series) romance. I mean, I want to see where they all end up, but I feel like we've seen Kate's journey. I don't need a season and a half of Kate and Phillip and will they or won't they. |
Total speculation, but I think they are casting visually impaired actors so it's probably a challenge in the continuity department. It's also possible that there's more kid Jack film coming our way or that there was more and it has been cut. |
I'm not saying anything about Rebecca or her perception. I'm saying I think there's a world of difference between not arguing with your mom with dementia and wearing a wedding ring to appear to be your dead father and husband of your mom with dementia. |
In Kate's case, her personality's so awful, her appearance is her best attribute. |
Honestly, it would not surprise me to learn that Big Green Egg got it's lawyers involved. A thirty year old hand me down Crock Pot with a known defect that someone forgot to unplug, eh, not really representative overall of the product. Nor is exercise equipment used by a guy with a heart condition (not to mention the raft of articles that pointed out not having an AED or calling 911 was headscratching), but a HUGE, expensive smoker thing blowing up in your yard at your BBQ and injuring a child, that's a bit of different animal. |
Imaginations run wild here. Geez. If anything, blind Jack would have maybe bumped into the egg. It wasn’t going to explode.
No chance the green egg people yanked the story line. This PR is the best thing to happen to that company TBH. Ditto for Pelaton, heck, even Crockpot. The writers did not hastily write this last season. That’s not how TV works. |
| I've always thought the teenage Kate actress bore such a remarkable resemblance to current Kate. This episode really highlighted that to me. |
Yep. Mentioned many, many pages ago. |
Jack's girlfriend said it blew up his parents entire marriage and there were multiple references to it, discussions about it. And then just...nothing. |

Ok… was on spring break and just watched it. Wow. This episode was so sad. Watching the break down of a marriage was truly heartbreaking. I’m a little surprised by the anti-Kate sentiment here, on one hand she’s not blameless, but honestly I get the impression she’s just not in love with Toby anymore and that’s why the marriage ended. In the other hand, I feel Hailey is like this lost child in this all: Toby wasn’t connecting with Jack, let’s adopt another kid!!! Brilliant! Although it’s unsavory, I’m sure we all know people who’ve had kids, biologically or otherwise, whose relationships weren’t exactly stable. It’s very realistic.
All of the big 3 are flawed human beings, I just hate how important it is for a woman to be “likable” to be related to. Did anyone notice that Chrissy Metz called Toby “Chris” at one point or was that just me? I disagree Kate and Phillip don’t have chemistry, although I would have liked to seen more of the build-up to that first date. Maybe that’s to come. Phillip’s story of his first wife was a kick in the stomach. Yes, if I were to meet them out I’d probably think they were a bit of an attractiveness mismatch, but we had the beauty (female) and the beast (male) b.s. shoved down our throats so long, I’m ok with this. I really hope we get the Kate/Sophie friendship reconnection story played out. So it’s gotta be Sophie, right? I’m a Cassidy fan but if she stays in the picture as a close friend and business colleague I’m cool with that. I just don’t particularly like the Sophie actress. In anything she’s done. Chris Sullivan blew me away in this episode. This episode was the payoff of a long-alluded to issue that Toby felt alienated in the Pearson family (remember that one episode where Beth, Toby and Miguel went to a bar and talked about how much they felt like outsiders sometimes?) and was very cognizant of the lingering effects of Jack on his wife. The writers laid the groundwork for this divorce almost as soon as they got together in season one. |

I think it’s a nod to all the little things you remember on an important day. For example, I can tell you what tote bag I carried to the hospital the day my dad died. Such an insignificant thing but a crucial memory of that day. The Miguel/Rebecca party was the first time Toby was using the egg. He said in a previous show that he’d get it in time for the party. Kate told Kevin that Toby was outside pretending not to know how to light it so he could avoid her. It was an insignificant part to a huge day. Try to look a little deeper. |
DP. Wasn’t aware we had a moderator assigned to this thread. Rude. |
I thought the most unrealistic part was that Toby after months in a great position in San Francisco couldn’t find another similar job in LA. It’s LA, not Akron. |
Very true. |
