Morning Workout People

Anonymous
I’ve accepted that the only time of day that I can realistically get a good workout in is early in the morning before work and before the kids are up. Problem is that it takes me a while to wake up and get going. That time of the day is when I have the least amount of energy or will power to actually start a workout. So, I guess I’m looking for some advice from folks that do this. What time are you getting up? Do you workout straight away, or are you waiting / eating breakfast and then doing it? How do you get motivated to start? Does it get easier after a while of doing this. I spend most of the previous day telling self I’m going to workout in the morning, but talk myself out of it as soon as I wake up.

Following for advice. Especially with the kids home with me all summer, the only time I can go for an outdoor run is before they wake up, or after dinner while theyre relaxing before bed. My prime time to run is around 930am, after coffee and a light breakfast and doing the crossword, but I'll have to somehow switch to doing it at 630am this summer and the one time I set an optimistic alarm to do this, I turned it off and went back to sleep without a thought.

I do OTF at 5am. My alarm goes off at 4:30. I'm out the door by 4:45. I don't have time to think in the morning. Get out of bed, brush teeth, put on clothes, and in the car. As far as being awake, I'm just doing what I'm told until about 5:45--that's when I'm fully awake and by then class is just about over. I do what I'm told, don't think, and by the time I realize what's going on, I've done my workout for the day.

I give myself 20-30 mins to have a cup of coffee and do some stretching but I don’t need to do much for my kids in the morning at this point

I would ask why it’s your energy low point. Do you have a vitamin deficiency? Try magnesium glycinate.

Set a routine and stick to it and set things out the night before so it’s easy to get out the door. This is the kind of thing you’ll need to force at first but it will eventually become easier. Morning runs are as much part of my daily routine as tooth brushing and showering.

What is otf
And what is “do what I’m told?”

I have another question for morning workout people! When do you poop??

I workout in the morning after kids are dropped off at school. I don’t have the energy to workout at the end of the day, unless it’s a dance class.

Kids come with me to gym on weekends and days they have off.

Orange Theory Fitness.

Same dilemma for me. You'll eventually do it. Keep thinking about it and visualizing it. It feels like I'm getting closer to waking up earlier. Give yourself grace and consider that you have a lot of valid factors contributing to why it may be hard.

I also go after kids drop off 9 to 10am. But I work for myself so people can't bother me about it

I drink tea in bed (thanks to my awesome DH), get up, brush teeth, go to the bathroom, put on running clothes, stretch and go.

My timing is similar. I do CrossFit. Get up and go and do the workout. My wake up time doesn’t give me time to change my mind . I’ve been doing this now for 13 years, I am now 52 and very fit.

I work 12s so not every day. On my days off my main exercise is an hour dog walk in the morning. I set my alarm but I’m usually awake anyway, for 615am. Get dressed, take him to the trails, come home 730ish wake up DD ( spouse is home while I’m out) shower and have coffee and breakfast. Leave at 830 for camp.

I choose sleep and my bed over anything else when I can, so I do not get up early and take extra time to get going. When my kids were 4 and 6, I knew I needed to do something for me, and early morning was the onlybavailable time. Alarm goes off at 5:30, and I am out the door between 5:45-5:50. I get up, dressed, brush my teeth and am out the door.

My kids are now teenagers and I have been going to 6am bootcamp for many years. I am both motivated and held accountable by seeing my now friends every morning.
