Success with same-ish foods every day?

Anonymous
Seeking your tips on eating the same-ish things everyday to make it easier to track calories.

Even if not tracking calories, to notice a gradual weight loss by eating the same meals.

I was ‘this’ kind of eater through college—eating almost the same breakfasts and lunches everyday. I think going back to this would help me lose. It also helped me have a little room for sweets or psychologically pleasing foods bc I knew a *small* amount fit to the overall. I didn’t abstain and then go overboard. I do really well with this. Like 1 small cookie per day—some people can’t manage this, but I can.

___________
Weight is 158.

My shortest goal would get me to the low point I had two years ago, 144, and it’s hard to face that I gained it all back.

My overall goal after that is 135-125. Based on my height/weight and similar bodies on mybodygallery, this is a look I would be happier with.
For me first it’s 157, 156, 155 and so forth. I don’t have the longer goals in mind just yet.

Yes, I lost a significant amount of weight doing this, although I don’t know how sustainable it is. It does help to take some of the mental load off of weight loss.

Yes, 12 lbs is doable in 8 weeks. You got this.

I love eating like this but my family hates the same thing everyday. So I stay sameish for individual stuff (eg, breakfast and dinner).

Same here, and it has really helped me lose weight, along with making sure that my "same" includes protein. It shifts my mindset from "living to eat" to "eating to live". Then portion control for dinner, meaning that I start with really small portions of meat/whatever protein and carbs, large portions of salad/veggies and then re-evaluate to see if I'm still hungry, which usually I'm not.

I have done this my whole life, just out of a desire for routine (it simplifies my grocery shopping, meal prep, etc). In the same way I basically have a clothes “uniform” for each of work days, weekends, and going out.

I used to say I got in food ruts, which is partially accurate but in general I think it's good to stick with the same things that you know you like and want to eat when you're trying to lose weight.

I eat the same breakfast every day.

About 2/3 c of plain greek yogurt, dried fruit, fresh fruit, and nuts/seeds. I mix up the fruits and nuts (this morning I had prunes (IYKYK, lol, but usually it's dried cherries or apricot), cut up nectarine, and pecans (before that I had a big bag of hazelnuts from Costco).

Every once in a while I make some hot cereal and put the dried fruit in it and eat it with nuts and half and half on top, maybe a little honey.

But it's almost always the yogurt. I need the protein and the fiber and it's low cal and easy and I don't have to think about it.

I like the “holy $hit”when you don’t need to wipe….whatever diet causes that I’d love to eat every day

I do this during the workweek for breakfast and lunch because I just can’t be bothered. Yogurt w/oatmeal or granola, protein bars for snack, salad with protein for lunch.

Saturday I eat a bagel sandwich and it’s heaven.

Overall people who are successful at losing and keeping weigh off tend to eat a lot of the same meals.

I think that as long as you don't get bored eating the same things is very helpful as it removed the thinking. You also only need to calculate calories once

I’m not sure what tips you seek - are you looking for meal ideas? I do this and my breakfasts and lunches are:

breakfast- siggis plain yogurt with whatever fruit I have on hand (usu strawberries and blueberries), 1T of WF super seed mix. sometimes in the winter instead I’ll make plain steel cut oats and top with fruit and the superseeds.

lunch- either dave’s bread with deli turkey and dijon mustard, baby carrots on side OR salad of bagged lettuce, diced cucumbers, chick peas, sliced cherry tomatoes, a little diced red onion, spoonful of capers, canned tuna or diced chicken if I have any dinner leftovers, sprinkle some feta, drizzle of evoo and red wine vinegar

My lunch basically every day at work consists of two ham sandwiches with horseradish, baby carrots, peanuts, and water.

Really, I do this because I like the food, it's really easy to put together, and it's fairly inexpensive.

I have no idea what the calorie load of that meal is. It's not the best, but it's certainly not the worst!
