Yep. Vaccinated people get covid pretty easily. And they are sick for a few days and go back to normal.
Unvaccinated people (of which there are plenty) clog up hospitals.

Do you have updated data to support your claim?

As posted earlier, Duke Hospital reported this week that 86% hospitalized with COVID are unvaccinated, 96% of COVID patients in ICU are unvaccinated, and 100% of patients on assisted breathing are unvaccinated.

The vaxxed aren't getting seriously sick.

Tell that to my sister in Olney who was vaccinated yet is struggling more than a week since testing positive. She needed monoclonal antibody infusion.

Candidly, I couldn’t care less what other community hospitals are reporting; I care about what MoCo hospitals are reporting. They are seeing a huge uptick. Given the majority of our community is vaxxed, they must be seeing vaxxed people.

Plus, the latest reports seem to indicate that your initial vaccination isn’t enough; you need a booster…and even then it’s not cool proof (as evidenced by the locals I know who were boosted and still got very sick).

I’m not anti-vax or booster. Rather, I think everyone should realize they aren’t bullet proof. You can get sick, so you should be extra careful.

I’m wondering if your sister had a previous condition that leaves her more susceptible to Covid or other illnesses? The fact of the matter is that this new variant is 10 times less lethal the Delta. The schools close with the rising of Delta so they’re not going to close with Omicron.

Maybe she got Delta, so tough to tell what's what from an anecdote.

That's not an empirical fact , Omicron being ten times less lethal. That's a projection. That's hope. I hope it's true, but I bet on nothing. You have to actually look at patterns, and timing, and features of this illness.

It started spreading in the beginning of December here.

It is December 16th now.

When Covid kills people it rarely does it fast. There's the cytokine storm response that happens about ten days later, there's the people who are hospitalized for months, there's the people who have a blood clot later. Likewise, when covid causes organ damage, it doesn't happen immediately. In a few months we will know if the news is good or worse. Now? All we can do is guess.

You can roll the dice all you want, but as I said to the woman in charge of my child's social skills class last week, the one charged with the care of several medically fragile children, who nonetheless took it upon herself to abandon the mask requirement for the class and not notify us parents....

(Deep breath)

"I'm not willing to roll the dice on permanent organ damage. Thanks."

Just wear your damned masks. It's not that complicated. It's not "living in fear." It's taking sensible freaking precautions and being a decent human being.

How deep was the breath you took? Was that a safe choice given the circumstances? Did you give a (deep sigh) to return the favor?

Yes wear your mask (who are you even talking to? MoCo has a mask mandate and the best compliance of anywhere else I have been in the last two years), but recognize your masks aren't bulletproof either. These variants are VERY contagious. If you absolutely do not want to "roll the dice on permanent organ damage" then you may need to hunker down for a bit.

I'm talking to everyone. We ARE hunkered. We have BEEN hunkered, but I am sick of twilight zone encounters (like with that teacher), or stories from my daughter about her science teacher taking her mask off mid-class, or the special guest who came to speak in English wearing hers like a freaking necklace, or the UPS guy who wanted my signature and didn't have one, or those two dudes in CVS getting booster shots before my kid the other day, or all those people I saw on Facebook attending a business event in Howard County and posing for maskless pictures, or my volunteer organization that just had its maskless Christmas party in DC....

Like seriously. What are you all thinking? What?

And no, I don't want to attend a cookies and carrolling party, what???

Sorry. I just have some feelings, as our children might say.

This. Cannot get over all the office Christmas party photos I'm seeing on Facebook, in DC, friend and acquaintances who I know are vaccinated just merrily gathering in large groups, indoors and unmasked. I do not get it. And I'm someone who's pretty tired of all of this, have flown, send my kid to public school in his mask and hope for the best, but frigging maskless, indoor office parties are just triggering me. STOP IT.

It's so odd that those are my only two options.

We do...

1.) In person school.

Used to do a masked social club get-together, but... apparently the masked part was too freaking hard.

I believe in the greater good. I believe in social responsibility. I believe in indoor classes, schools staying open, and that masks work. If I actually trusted my fellow human beings more I might shop for pleasure, or travel, or socialize (masked.). But if this pandemic had taught me anything it is that this world is a terrible place full of selfish, illogical people, who have no concept of cause and effect or long-term consequence. They also seem really bad at math.

No, my sister does not have any underlying health issues.

Question: why are you assuming that she has omicron? Her doctor said it very well could be delta. If it’s delta, the antibody infusion should help.

PS - just got my daily mcps letter from Sherwood. 5 more cases…that they know of.
