JMU vs. Clemson - Business

Anonymous
VA resident - DD committed to JMU as a business/finance major but just got off the Clemson waitlist. Is Clemson worth the OOS tuition in terms of business school reputation? Merit was not offered at either school.

People can switch after they commit?!

What is the total cost per year for each school? Do you have all the cash for either school?

Yes, you just loose your initial deposit to save your spot. Real money is due later in the summer.

Business is business. Academically not sure the coursework will be much different. I don't know much about Clemson. Is your student excited about JMU? It is a solid choice. And has a reputation for happy and friendly students. Good luck to your student!

I know this doesn’t matter to everyone, but Clemson is very very conservative. I would keep that in mind if that would bother your daughter. If that doesn’t bother her, Clemson definitely has a better name recognition and a better college town environment.

JMU hands down. Clem is an agriculture college with cows.

I honestly can't imagine paying OOS for Clemson when you have a JMU offer. JMU is a great school with tons of opportunities, smart and nice students, and a beautiful location. Plus, in-state tuition. I have two JMU business grads and one current student.

I disagree on both counts.

Please explain how you think Harrisonburg is a better college town than Clemson!? Harrisonburg is a dump for the most part.

Harrisonburg has an adorable historic town full of restaurants. What does Clemson have?

Biggest question is can you afford it. It is about double, so like $60k tuition and room and board vs $32k.

If kid wants to work in dc after graduation, JMU is a great place to have alumni connections.

To me it is not worth an extra $120k for 4 years of Clemson vs JMU business.
