Lyrics that hear differently today

Heard Beach Boys “greatest song of all time” God only knows today and for first time thought “wait, what did they just say?!!”

Beach Boys: “God only knows what I'd be without you
If you should ever leave me
Well life would still go on believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me”

Much of the late 80s/early 90s popular rap is very misogynistic. Those songs used to be my 'go to' running music. I can't listen to the songs with lyrics about sex and slapping bodies.

I had to change the radio station this morning when "Every Breath You Take" came on. That song just creeps me out.

Well, at least "Don't stand so close to me" has disappeared from the airwaves.

Both songs are supposed to. “Young teacher, the subject, of schoolgirl fantasy/fantasies.”

One I never liked even when first heard it was Bruce’s always old man sounding voice signing “hey little girl is your daddy home, did he go away leave you all alone…”

Pumped Up Kicks. Hate it. "All the other kids with their pumped up kicks you better run, better run, outrun my bullet."

Sting always said that it floors him that couples use this song as a first wedding dance. It’s a song about a stalker!

Baby it’s Cold Outside is another song that hasn’t aged well. No, means no.

Into the Night by Benny Mardones. I slow danced to this in junior high!

She's just 16 years old
Leave her alone, they said
Separated by fools
Who don't know what love is yet
But I want you to know
If I could fly
I'd pick you up
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love
Like you've never seen, ever seen
It's like having a dream
Where nobody has a heart
It's like having it all
And watching it fall apart
And I would wait 'til the end
Of time for you
And do it again, it's true
I can't measure my love
There's nothing to compare it to
But I want you to know
If I could fly
I'd pick you up
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love
Oh, if I could fly
I'd pick you up
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love
Like you've never seen, ever seen, yeah

PP and My Sharona by the Knack

Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind
I always get it up for the touch of the younger kind
My, my, my, I-I, whoa
M-m-m-my Sharona
Come a little closer, huh, a-will ya, huh?
Close enough to look in my eyes, Sharona
Keeping it a mystery, it gets to me
Running down the length of my thighs, Sharona

I’ve heard Sting in interviews say that people come up to him and say that was their wedding song etc. and he just shakes his head.
