Amy Poehler and Tina Fey

I wish I liked their humor. Everyone my age loves them.
I do not see the appeal.

why don't you like them? Are you a man or a woman? I don't understand the need for this thread

I am a woman. I find Amy Poehler just kinda generic - no edge or zest.
Tina Fey gives mean girl vibes.

Well, Tina Fey was involved with the movie 'mean girls' but, I don't know how you can get a vibe when you don't know her. It's ok that you don't like them. We know we aren't going to convince you so what is the point?

For what it is worth I like them.

You don’t have to like them, it’s ok.

I want to understand what makes them funny!

I love love love them! They are great award show hosts pointing fun at the industry. They were great at the SNL 50 celebration.

I find them very funny. Here is the float away into space joke that always gets me.

I also appreciate that SNL was a boys club and together they helped change that vibe. There is an iconic story about Poehler just arriving on SNL and refusing to be “ladylike” for the established SNL boys that Tina Fey told in Bossypants that always impressed me:

“Amy Poehler was new to SNL and we were all crowded into the seventeenth-floor writers' room, waiting for the Wednesday night read-through to start. [...] Amy was in the middle of some such nonsense with Seth Meyers across the table, and she did something vulgar as a joke. I can't remember what it was exactly, except it was dirty and loud and ‘unladylike.’”

“Jimmy Fallon [...] turned to her and in a faux-squeamish voice said, ‘Stop that! It's not cute! I don't like it.’

“Amy dropped what she was doing, went black in the eyes for a second, and wheeled around on him. ‘I don't [effing] care if you like it.’ Jimmy was visibly startled. Amy went right back to enjoying her ridiculous bit.

“With that exchange, a cosmic shift took place. Amy made it clear that she wasn't there to be cute. She wasn't there to play wives and girlfriends in the boys' scenes. She was there to do what she wanted to do and she did not [effing] care if you like it.”

I love them both, but different strokes for different folks. I don’t see a problem with you not liking them and I really don’t think you should spend time trying to convince yourself. There’s tons of comedy out there.

If you’re really interested, I just think they’re both super smart, and I just enjoy their sense of humor. The float away in space that a PP referenced was part of an award show they hosted together and I think almost every joke hit. They had a recurring bit on SNL where they played the bush twins that was really hilarious.

Like a PP said I do think they changed the game for women in comedy and women writers. It’s such a misogynistic industry. Lorne Michaels has been quoted as saying that when Tina and Amy came on along with the other women in their group, Rachel Dratch etc., that he had never seen anything like it and they were “like ninjas.” I think it’s really hard to be a woman in comedy and a woman writer and I think it was even harder back then and I just admire them. I also enjoyed both their memoirs. YMMV.

I generally like them; although I'm surprised to read a post about them. Do they have a new project or something? Fwiw, I enjoyed them on SNL weekend update. My favorite moment with them was when they shaded Taylor Swift at an awards show.

I think the movies they’ve been in together are terrible, but they were lightning in a bottle on SNL together.

I think they are hilarious. I’ve been loving Amy Poehler’s podcast, especially the one when she interviews Tina Fey. Made me laugh many times. And the Kathryn Hahn one! Love her too.

To me, Tina Fey is like the patron saint of mean girl victims.

You don't have to like them. Not everything is for everybody. It's OK.

This is the anecdote I thought of, too!

Parks and Rec and 30 Rock were both groundbreaking shows with a huge impact on TV.
