I think they are funnier if you share their exact politics AND you give yourself and others grace for being an older GenX-er who finds mean/insulting humor hilarious.

I think the people who don’t enjoy them either don’t share their liberal worldview or, if they do, they don’t like the way they still use biting sarcasm and put-down type humor in a manner that was completely normal in the 90s early 2000s but is not at all “acceptable” as humor now.

Curious to know whether OP feels that my theory nailed that explanation of why their humor doesn’t resonate with her….

I liked Amy on "Parks and Recreation." I've never seen any stand-up of hers. Amy is funnier to me than Tina. I find Tina very one-note with being cutting and snark. I've only seen one episode of 30 Rock. It bothered me when she did that stupid Sarah Palin impression about seeing Russia from her house. That makes no sense given the size of Alaska. Plus, Palin never said that. Yet Fey seemed so smug and satisfied with herself. All she is is smug.

I find Kristen Wiig 100 times funnier than either of these two.

no, Fey didn't plagiarize Palin's words, she did with them what comedians do.

interviewer Charles Gibson asked Palin what insight she had gained from living so close to Russia, and she responded: "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska."

Well that certainly clarifies the " hilarity."

You complained “Sarah didn’t even say that!” And when shown the exact paraphrasing you walk it back with “it’s not funny.”
That’s what makes you MAGA.

Exactly she did not say that. She never said she could see Russia from her house. I am sorry you need to rewrite history to make Tina Fey's 20 year old impression seem funny. Peddling Tina Fey as a great comic genius is confusing to me. Her whole persona was the brainy cool girl who is supposed to be attractive and irresistible to men. It is a tired trope with every female comic who does it, not just Fey.

And again, Kristen Wiig was much funnier as an actor and sketch comedian and she can actually act like something other than herself. She could play tons of different characters. Tina Fey has one mode, cynical brainy cool gitl.

This reminds me of when people used to laugh at Steve Martin clips and I always thought it was goofy and obvious. Tina Fey is in the obvious and not funny category to me.

Oh, you mean you expect a comedy show to only directly quote people or it's not funny? Breaking news, comedian doesn't plagiarize, but paraphrases Palin when she said: "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska."

But you're confused?

You're wrong on so many levels.

To be more clear even the paraphrasing is not funny to me. The impression was not funny to me and I hate Sarah Palin. The impression was smug and obvious. The Sarah Palin hype gave Fey a huge head snd made her think she is a comic genius. She is like every other mildly witty woman in DC.

That doesn’t make sense. Fey had already been head writer at SNL, had the coveted Weekend Update anchor job, had commercial success with Mean Girls (which she wrote), and was running her own show (30 Rock) when she was asked to play Palin.

Okay. Tina Fey is the greatest genius comic of her generation, so original daring, beautiful and witty. I hope she makes Mean Girls 3 so I can enjoy more vagina/gyn jokes and mildly witty snark asides.

I’m no Tina Fey fan girl, but you said the Palin impersonation gave her a big head. I’m pretty sure it didn’t rank up there with her other professional accomplishments.

You don’t think she’s funny because you have no sense of humor. It’s what we like to call a “you” problem. Don’t feel bad, it happens.

Tina Fey's persona is awkward brainy girl who is inept around men

Tina Fey has a new series out with Steve Carell that looks pretty funny - based on a movie from 1981 called the four seasons I believe.

Feel like I’m in a bit of a TV drought so I’ll probably check it out.
