| I’ve struggled with insomnia for over 10 years now. If I wake up in the middle of the night, I have so much trouble falling back asleep. Sometimes I toss and turn for many hours trying to fall back asleep not looking at my phone or anything, just laying there. I can’t take any sleeping medication because I’m currently breastfeeding. What can I do to fall back asleep??? It drives me crazy and I hate that my baby is such a good sleeper but I’m still exhausted everyday from insomnia. |
| Half of you is on alert for baby. It's completely normal but yes it's horrible. I still don't sleep completely out and my kids are now teenagers. |

I’m an on/off insomniac. It’s so stressful. Here are my suggestions:
—You can take magnesium. Try magnesium glycinate —How is your caffeine intake? See if you can cut back. —drink most of your water in the morning and early afternoon so you’re not thirsty at night and don’t have to wake up to pee. —make sure your room is cool —use a separate blanket from your spouse —stop stressing about the amount of sleep you are or are not getting. If you can accept that you’re just not going to be as well rested as you want, you may even sleep better as some of the stress can keep you awake —find calming music that works well to rest your brain and bookmark them. It’s taken awhile for me to find the right music. |
| OP-thank you! No caffeine intake. I’ve learned I can only do one cup in the morning or it impacts my sleep. Room temperature might be impacting me. I’m normally the type of person that’s always cold but I’ve been sweating in the middle of the night. The room is only 71-72 degrees. Maybe it’s postpartum hormones |

Nighy sweats while nursing are normal due to the estrogen drop. Try running a fan at night.
I find audiobooks help me go back to sleep. |
| Cold be Sleep apnea. |

| OP-i used to listen to sleep hypnosis on YouTube which would help somewhat but since baby is sleeping in my room I can’t listen to anything for fear it will wake her up. I’m honestly thinking about quitting breastfeeding (I’m an exclusive pumper) so that I can take a sleeping aid at night. Baby is 4 months. I worry about her not getting breastmilk though |
| You are most likely very low in magnesium. Get a good supplement and take it before bed every night. I'm certain that insomnia is not your only symptom. |
OP-what other symptoms would I have? |
Headaches, muscle weakness, constipation, anxiety, irritability, breaking nails, hair loss, fatigue, cavities ... all sorts of things stem from magnesium deficiency. Most women don't get enough magnesium anymore. |
You are not getting enough exercise. It is as simple as that. |
| I’m m pretty sure I was given ambien while breastfeeding. Try asking. |
| If you wake up take 2 Tylenol |
| Google boring bedtime stories for grownups. Put it on low under your pillow. Will put you right back to sleep. You're welcome |
